Price Paid:  $0.00 at Bike Haven, Fair Hav

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
Tour de Lake Hopatcong

Bike Setup:
- Full Dura-Ace, except for the wheels.
- Ritchey WCS Anatomic bars
- Ritchey WCS 4-Axis stem
- Serfas carbon bottle cages
- Specialized Toupe team saddle

Summary:
This is a 2008 model CR-1, not an '07 (the drop down box didn't give me an '08 option). This is a fantastic bike - stiff in all the right places; I'm a big guy, and I can really put some force into a sprint, and this bike transmits all of that force to the back wheel. I'm a little big to be a climber, but I love the hills anyways, and this bike goes up well (the only limitation being the rider), and is by far the best descender I've ridden. Very stable while bombing down hills, no suprises as I come into a turn at 30+. Suprisingly comfortable for all-day rides.

Although I'm still tinkering with my position a little, I love the geometry of the frame - it's like it was built for me. Stock, it came with two headset spacers, but I like a fairly low position, so I don't imagine they'll be there for too much longer.

This is a very upgradable frame, even though stock it came with Ultegra, which is pretty darn good. I can't wait to get some Zipps on this bike...but that'll have to wait til the bike comes off the credit card!

Strengths:
- frame, both quality and geometry
- value for the price point. I looked at a lot of bikes before deciding on this one, and I feel I would have paid about $1000 more from most other manufacturers for a similar product.
- handling. I want to say especially downhill...but really, especially when you're going fast! Just a great bike at speed.
- Just plain fast.

Weaknesses:
I didn't like some of the stock components. The Ultegra was fantastic, of course (although I upgraded to Dura-Ace), but the stock Scott labeled saddle didn't work for me at all. Replaced with a Specialized Toupe, also the stock bars didn't fit my hands. Ritchey saves the day. Outside of easily replaced stuff that gets replaced anyways, great bike.

Similar Products Used:
I test rode Trek Madones, Orbeas, and several other makes and models. I also own a Jamis Nova, which now has been relegated solely to commuting and errand duty.

Price Paid:  $1300.00 at www.kudubikes.co.uk

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
Scott CR1

Bike Setup:
standard

Summary:
Took this out for its first major ride last week and i was mightily impressed, despite hardly any training over winter, did 60miles inc. hills in just 4 hours. Pump the tyres up to 120 psi and you feel like you’re being towed up hills!

Transmission is smooth, the carbon frame has just enough flex to be comfortable but is solid where you need it to be. For the price, it weighs nothing at all.

The frame is top quality by any standards and the components all have the right balance of value and performance (esp. the wheels).

Strengths:
- light for the price
- nice carbon feel
- strong under climbing/acceleration
- easy to upgrade to "superbike" status by fitting dura ace or top quality wheels when originals wear out

Weaknesses:
- bottom bracket seemed to creak a lot (but no noticable flex)

Price Paid:  $2000.00 at Peaked Sports

Model Year:
2006

Favorite Ride:
any place with lots of ups and downs

Bike Setup:
Stock, except for the seat, a shorter stem, and new handle bars with a shorter drop and reach.

Summary:
I'm a jr. racer only coming in at 120lbs so the frame can be a little stiff for me, but otherwise I love this bike. It feels like it has a motor in the hills and it builds confidence in the descents. I've hit 60mph with this bike and compared to my Raleigh competition it felt like I was going 40. It wastes no energy, it all goes to moving you forward. The only thing I don't like is the large profile of the tubing. I don't think it makes a big difference in a tail or head wind, but it does get pushed around in a heavy cross wind. That could just be because of my size. Not to mention it makes it hard to put a number on the bike, and the unremovable rear derailer hanger alway makes me a little nervous, but that's all little stuff. Overall it is an awesome bike.

Strengths:
lightness, handles very well. climbs and descends like a monster.

Weaknesses:
unremoveable rear derailer hanger.

Similar Products Used:
Raleigh competition

Price Paid:  $2800.00 at ebay

Model Year:
2007

Favorite Ride:
Historic Hiway 30

Bike Setup:
2008 Pro except with Sram Force Gruppo, Easton Circuit wheels, Deda 215 handlebar. Easton EC 90 seatpost and Selle Italia saddle. Conti 4000 tires.

Summary:
Actually it is a 2008 with Sram Force. I waited for a couple of months to write this to see if it still seems as great of a ride as when it first arrived and the answer is yes! I am older rider and frame stiffness is no problem for me. This bike is very fast uphill and on the flats. The biggest change I have noticed is that I now can keep up with just about anyone on the hills. Also really like the Force gruppo. The 11-26 cassette gives an extra gear for the big hills that my Shimano 12-25 didn't have. Also love the Deda handlebars and how easy it is to stay in the drops for long periods of time.

Strengths:
Fast, great ride and fits me to a T (5'10" on 56cm). 2 lbs. Lighter than anything else I could find without spending at least another $1,000.

Weaknesses:
Rear derailleur hanger is not replaceable. Easton EC90 seatpost is light butjunk.

Similar Products Used:
1996 Trek 5200 with many upgrades including Ouza Pro fork and Mavick Equipe wheels, which I rode for 10 years. Kona Jake the Snake.
