The all black Grand Prix 4000 S catches the eye with its big silver labels. Aggressive and posh alike it matches every high-end racebike perfectly. With the reduction to black and silver the Grand...
Bike Setup: 2007 Serotta Nove, full Ultrega except BB has been upgraded with DA with ceramic bearings
Summary: I have used Conti Attack/Force, Cp 3000, and GP 4000. These have been the best tires to date that I have used from Conti. I have 3500km on them and they are still going strong. I have had no problems installing CP 4000s on my Toplinos, Mavic SL3, or my Zip Team CSC wheels.
Strengths: Roll, corner and handles the wet roads great. Smooth ride.
Weaknesses: None to date
Similar Products Used: Conti Attack/Force, Gp 3000 & 4000, Michelin Pro Race 2

Summary: A leap over the GP3000 and an improvement over the GP4000. After 1,500 miles the rear tire is squared off. I installed the rear tire by hand (on a Campy Eurus) but the front tire was almost impossible (on a Campy Scirocco). I have broken two tire levers attempting to install the tire on the front wheel.
In my experience this has much less to do with the tire, and more with the particular wheel.
One of the few tires I am willing to pay retail price for.
Strengths: Great durability. Great handling. Easy installation (depending on the rim). More cut resistant than other Contis.
Similar Products Used: Everything but Michelin and Hutchinson.

Summary: Note this review is just about the installation process. I havent ridden on these yet.
These tyres were almost next to impossible to install!
I dont know if its my inexperience, but it's impossible to put these tyres back on without using a lever of some sort. I spent the last 1.5hrs changing the tyres and my levers are bent backwards from putting these on, not to mention that i punctured one of my tubes in the process!! I did plan to go for a ride tomorrow but i think putting in the new tube will be a good enough work out.
I hope i never get a puncture on these because its going to be very very time consuming!
Strengths: looks great.
Weaknesses: blistered hands

Bike Setup: K2 MOD 3. Shimamo 105 group set. Bontrager Race Light wheels.
Summary: Excellent tires. I used the GP 4000 before which were good but these definitely have better wet weather grip. They roll well and seem to be wearing well. I've just swopped back to front at about 2000 miles and they look good for another thousand.
I've had two punctures - both chunks of glass, so fairly puncture proof for light weight tires.
They are extremely difficult to fit when new and I still need to use tire levers to fit the back one (Bontrager Race Lights - the back rim is bigger than the front one!)
Strengths: Light weight
Excellent grip esp. in the wet
Wear well
good puncture resistance.
Weaknesses: Very difficult to fit when new.

Summary: These tires suck. End of story. They may have excellent traction, low rolling resistance, good durability... I wouldn't know. They are too small to be installed correctly on a standard road wheel. Yes, I know many tires are snug... the Michelin Pro2's come to mind. This is different, it's a straight up design flaw. I'm sure many people who either had these on their bikes already or had a mechanic install them think they're great, and maybe they are, once on... but I can't recommend any tire that literally jeopardizes the integrity of the wheel during installation. Those folks who had your wrench install them... probably a good thing you weren't around to see what he had to do to get them on. I speak from experience, being a wrench myself. Every pair of GP4000s's we've installed, we've had to true the wheel afterwards. And forget me, if you want... two of the guys at my shop wrench professionally for pro teams... one retired (he went to the TDF) and one currently for a well-known domestic squad. Both have tremendous difficulty getting these tires on while observing the usual do's and don'ts of tire mounting. These tires don't fit. Period.
Strengths: Who knows. What I hear is good traction, durability, blah blah blah.
Weaknesses: Tire is so ill-designed that installation must be "fudged", potentially damaging your wheels over the long term.
