at LBS with new bike Favorite Ride: The next one.. Bike Setup: Serotta, Full Rival groupset Summary: A good but not spectacular brake set. I've used these for 7000 miles in both good and bad weather and they are working fine for the most part. Strengths: - Appears to have bearings on the main pivots, no sign that they are freezing up, at least after a good cleaning.
- Easy to setup
- Excellent stopping & modulation
- Brake pad is compatible with Shimano pads Weaknesses: - The indexed adjustment lever/pivot on one of my brakes *is* freezing up. It appears this can be disassembled so it may be fixable
- Location of the brake pad fixing bolt is inferior to other brake calipers I've used. Rather then placing the fixing bolt on the outside of the brake shoe, it is placed on the top. This causes the tiny (1mm?) allen bolt to fill with dirt & pad material, increasing the risk of stripping the bolt. In addition, this location is inaccessible on the front brake without removing the caliper from the fork. This makes it more difficult to change pads then other calipers.
- Stock pad compound is fairly poor, it seems to contain a lot of metal & will gouge rims fairly easily and has poor wet weather stopping ability. However this seems to be true of all manufacturer pads
- SRAM does not even appear to sell replacement brake pads Similar Products Used: 105, Ultegra, DA
