Easton EC90 SLX Forks

DESCRIPTION

Using advanced high-modulus composite material and proprietary manufacturing technology, Easton engineers have created the lightest fork on the planet. The SLX has the same performance characteristics as the EC90 Superlight but weighs 50 grams less.

Like others have said, so light it doesn't seem like it could work, let alone work well. I replaced a Slice SI on my R2000 CAAD 5. Now the Slice fork is great but I was being a weight Weenie and trying to get by bike to 15 pounds (I did) and this fork is the main reason. Slice fork = 535g, SLX=269g (both cut to size) incredible.
As for performance, it works great, tracks true, is relatively stiff yet compliant. It looks great too.

Weakness:

Had an issue with the break mounting nut sinking deep into the back of the fork. Resolved with a couple hard to find washers.

Super light, great performing fork. Look for a sale as they are quite expensive.

Strength:

Weight (300g), looks, ITT mounting.

Weakness:

Usually pretty expensive, but I got a deal through eBay. If you're going to buy one of these, only get the model that's internally threaded and doesn't have a star nut.

There are two models of the EC90 SLX. I'm reviewing the newer model with ITT

1. Older - uses star nut
2. Newer - uses ITT

INTERNAL THREAD TECHNOLOGY (ITT)
Defined: Carbon steer tubes with a layer of high strength epoxy-infused internal threads, eliminate the need for heavy, clumsy internal expander plugs that can slip or damage steer tubes. ITT threads are capable of withstanding 2500 ft/lbs without pulling out.

This fork is rock solid and tracks like it's on rails. I weigh 150 and ride on roads and crushed gravel paths. With the ITT threaded steer tube, this fork is easy to install and never comes loose or chatters. I've got about 2000 miles on it and I'm really happy I bought it. I've hit potholes big enough to stop my bike and check my wheels, fork and frame.

I'm a perfectionist. When I received the fork, prior to installing it, I sent it to Calfee Designs for testing. I had them do a symmetry test on it. http://www.calfeedesign.com/tech-papers/fork-symmetry/

Typically you want your fork to be symmetrical within 1 mm. This fork was within .05 mm. In other words, perfect.

Really smooths out rough country roads,
very light, tracks well and great looking
fork.

Weakness:

a little bit flexy when climbing

Bought a used specialized s works e5 and
this fork came with frame. After a few months of riding I really like fork for a daily ride as it rides so smooth and tracks well and looks the part against the flo red specialized frame. The only
characteristic of fork I don't like is the extra flex when climbing, it's not really flexy but compared to a reynolds ouzo pro I perfer the latter overall.

Light weight

Weakness:

Flex, chatter

I dont post many reviews, but when I saw this was a top rated product, I had to chime in. This fork is scary light. I weigh 150lbs and it feels too light for me. It chatters and flexes like hell. The flat section on the steerer tube causes your headset to be constantly loose. Throw away the expander/spacer right away. If all you care about is weight...this is a great fork. Otherwise run away. If you weigh more than 175 and race...do not buy this fork!

Unbelievably light fork without a weight limit!

Weakness:

None so far.

Swapped out the original Bontrager forks for these to save weight and improve handling. Amazed at how truly light they were and how well they tracked - especially at high speed on descents. I'm a big rider at 6'1" 190 lbs, but it doesn't seem to be an issue with these forks. I haven't experienced any of the issues with the clamp that other reviewers noted.

Light. Much lighter than these kinda things ought to be. Accurate tracking. Nice compliance - will suck up potholes and roadbuzz.

Weakness:

erm...

Can't think of one.

These forks came with my R3, and I was tempted to swap them with the Wolf forks that come with most Cervelos. Until I pulled it out of the box - this thing is just so light. It took me a moment to get over it. But the most impressive thing about these forks are the laser sharp tracking. It gives you the confidence to just stick the bike into corners flat out. Definitely sticking with these forks. excellent.

Weight - crazy, scarey light. Looks, just a beautiful product. Tracts great and softens the road too.

Weakness:

It's always in the back of my mind how light the dang thing is... Maybe that's MY weakness.

Went on a weight weenie binge. Replaced my Cannondale carbon SI prodigy fork with this one. I weighed it on a electronic scale at 270 (cut) grams. I dropped a 1/2 lb off my ride! I can't believe how light this fork is, the Cannondale fork weighs a little more than twice as much! The ride wasn't improved over the very sweet SI fork but is still wonderful. The fork tracks great and is smooth and the looks can't be beat. I've ridden all summer on it without a problem and I'm 200 lbs!

How long is all this carbon going to last me?

Glides over the road and tracks well down the mountains.

Looks nice thats about all.

Weakness:

Contacted Easton about problem with constant grinding and squeaking they sent a bear claw clamp that solved nothing E mailed them again ,they wouldn't even reply, pretty bad for such a expensive fork.

Fork came on a Felt FIC with Zipp crank and bottom bracket, handle bars and stem, all the rest is Shimano 10 speed Dura Ace group . Bike is nice for climbing on Zipp 303s ,if you can stand the constant grinding from fork and headset.
