Strengths:    Awesome commuter. It's light and fast, and as a stock bike it's a good commuter. Solid Ritchey Rock Comp rims, Shimano LX all around and good gear ratio for flats and hills.

Weaknesses:    Largest frame size is a 20". They try to get away with the old "mountain bikes should be an inch or two smaller" rule even though most folks won't take it off-road. I would love to see a 21" or 22" which would fit a bit better.

Bottom Line:
I went looking for a commuter and found that Specialized has the best available (April, 2000). I originally found the Crossroads Elite, but with the $250 price difference, the components are far better on the 2000 Pro and worth the bucks. Took both bikes out for an extended ride and the Pro feels snappier and rides better than the Crossroads Elite and Sport. It even performs moderately well off-road, although this isn't where it's strengths are. I've ridden steel in the past and the aluminum frame is stiff (along with 100psi tires) so the addition of a Rock Shock seat stem made the ride a bit softer. If you plan on commuting or want a solid hybrid bike, the Pro is the one you want. It's the best you can get.

Strengths:    This bike hauls ass. The saddle and grips are very comfortable. It carves high speed turns with ease and control. I love the yellow, people get out of my way. My frame is not the curved one in the catalog. I like the straight frame better.

Weaknesses:    The seat post, I can't tighten it up anymore to get the side play out. The fork is none adjustable and the travel should be a little longer. More ground clearance is needed for offroad riding. The tires suck offroad

Bottom Line:
After I changed the tires, the bike performed great. I can fly through the woods and hard pack trails. My new Fs has a better ride, but its very slow in comparison. If I could find a FS bike that rides and handles like the Cr-A1-Pro,I would have a bike for life.

Strengths:    Adjustable, stem angle, seat post suspension lock out, comfortable. Very nicely built aluminum frame, bomb proof for goofing on off road trails.

Weaknesses:    kinda heavy, funky top tube curve makes standover height less than the size of the frame would leave you to believe, but I like the way it looks.

Bottom Line:
The bike I bought was the 2000 model with the suspension fork. I think the fork is more of a gimmick than anything, but what the hey, it works ok. I like the cool paint black to silver fade. The ride is nice and it has v brakes and decent enough components for light duty off road stuff. A great bike for cruising and for the wife to ride also.
