at Recyclery Palo Alto Favorite Ride: Flume Ride Lake Tahoe, CA Bike Setup: I replaced the saddle with a Lady Sella Italia saddle with a slit in the middle. Summary: I've had this bike 18 years. It's one of the most solid bikes I've had and it easily does 50-milers. It only has 42 teeth on its biggest front gear wheel and won't go as fast as a road bike with typically 52 teeth. However, if you put good hybrid bike tires on it which go on the road, it will be fine for charity rides.
After about 15 years, with regular lubrication of the chain, pedals, couple of new saddles, new gear changer, new gear cables, new brake cables, new tires the one thing I did not service was the bottom of the crank. So the pedals died on a charity ride. I had to take them to a bike shop to get them removed. I cut all the cables and took the bike down to the frame, then I rebuilt it. It's now almost as good as new.
I'd highly recommend this bike for someone who wants an all purpose bike. If you can find one second hand it's a good bike to work on. Strengths: Very stable and good for beginners.

Easily adjustable saddle height.
Lugs to fit rear carrier.
Solid women's frame with low cross bar.
Cantilever brakes give good leverage.
Easy to fix. Weaknesses: Bike will shake going down rough roads - so I wouldn't recommend it for serious mountain biking as the little bit of cushioning on the handlebars is not a serious shock absorber.
No really fast gear ratios.
Similar Products Used: I haven't need another hybrid bike. My Schwinn GSX is a touring bike with similar weight but it has drop handlebars.
