Strengths: Seat, comfortable ride (long wheelbase model), affordable price, good construction. Ability to convert from long to short wheelbase, from under to above seat steering. 48" X-seam capability. 250 lb+ capacity.Weaknesses: Relatively difficult learning curve (underseat steering, long wheelbase).Bottom Line: This bike will give back what you put into it, to a point. Good value. Comfortable ride (long wheelbase). Good construction. Fantastic seat.
My 27th bike, my first recumbent. Took me a while to get it together on this bike. Twichiness others have reported is easily corrected with 20 x 1.35" (406-35) front tire and shortening of steering stem by 0.75". Also requires light touch on the bars. I have ridden two BRAG's (www.brag.org) and many metric century rides in Florida and Georgia on this fine ride. The tailbox is a must. I may add a front fairing.
Favorite Ride: Withlacoochee State Trail, TOSRV-South, B.R.A.G.

Strengths: The ability to do a quick change from Short to long wheel base, and to use either Over or Under seat bar positions. Comfort and adjustability of the seat is a HUGE asset. The quality of the bike is outstanding in my opinion. I like the no dish rear wheel as well! That makes it stronger and this is a benefit to me as I am rather heavy at 235 lbs!Weaknesses: I am somewhat reluctant to say anything negative here, but Recumbents in general share the weakness of having to sit up at a stop light or sing and see around things. Also looking back over your shoulder is always difficult. As to the Vision itself, I would prefer a BIT better seat attachment than I have (Velcro!) but I understand this has been rectified on later models. I would like to have a bit more "universal" front wheel too (later models have 20 inch tires on front!)it is very difficult finding the correct size 16 inch tire!Bottom Line: This is a 1995 model with most of the bugs worked out by the previous owner. It came with a rack in place and a modified USS. I have tried it in that configuration, and with the factory setup, and both SWB and LWB and have recently switched to the OSS and added a tail fairing.
The bike is VERY solidly built, a pleasure to ride and one of the most comfortable I have ever ridden. The USS makes it a bit more difficult to ride, especially for a beginner! But the OSS changed that and makes the handling more precise as well as making it more flexible. The USS was difficult for me to use and I was always modifying the bars to get a better feel (personal choices here!) I personally prefer the OSS and LWB setup! Teh frame soaks up bumps so I don't feel that suspension is necessary. The SWB ride was fairly harsh!
Overall the bike is an excellent value! Mine was purchased used and is older, but the seat is all mesh and VERY comfortable! The addition of a tail fairing makes it FAST! i can average 16 mph with ease and reach 20-25 with no difficulty on the flats! I have confidence in this bike and like it.
Favorite Ride: anywhere! But Iowa mostly!

Bike Setup: My bike has Freddie Fenders (planet bike)and a Tail fairing from Turnerrecumbents (I recommend this!)I have also added the light/computer mount to the derailleur tube. which is rather expensive ($35!) but works very well! I have also changed the Front brake to a V brake (came with Cantis)and am running Primo Comets.

Strengths: Nice color i guessWeaknesses: Hideous customer service and a seat that couldn't support a little kid without falling apart.Bottom Line: Alright, so mine was a 2002. They didn't have a listing for that year on this site at the time of this writing. I feel driven to tell whoever want's to listen that this recumbent is a piece of crap! I bought mine new for $1013.00 On the second ride the seat backing fell apart. The dealer replaced it with one off another model on the showroom floor. The second seat lasted about a week and then that one fell apart. Now keep in mind that I'm only 165 lbs. Vision wanted me to send them the second broken seat so they could inspect and replace it. After all my trouble the had the nerve to send the 3rd seat PARCEL POST!! It took over a week for it to arrive. Bad customer service!! In addition to the seat falling apart, the holes for the rack were tapped wrong and I had no choice but to just jam 2 of the 4 screws in so I could mount a rack.

Strengths: Adjustability, adaptability, easy to master, great value. Climbs well.Weaknesses: Rough ride and front end shimmy at higher speeds.ÈBottom Line: Very solid bike for the money and an excellent first recumbent. The components on mine 2-1/2 yr ago were a mish-mash, but the company has straightened that out. The ability to change from USS to OSS and SWB to LWB makes for a great test bed to see what you really want. Ride very stable and controlled at low to medium speed, to the point that it is actually possible to ride no-handed. The front end develops a little bit of a shimmy at higher speeds (>18), especially with the OSS, when the long steering tube seems to go into a resonance. Easily controlled with a hand on the bars. The seat has a looong range of tilt adjustment, something for everyone. The stiff frame makes higher speeds on rough pavement a real pain. Bottom bracket position makes the bike a good climber.

Strengths: Decent price, Adaptability (SWB or LWB, OSS or USS), Vison reputation, Decent components that easily upgrade - I.E 26" and 20" wheels, Shimano components, adjustable seat tension, takes standard rear rack, comfortable and easy to learnWeaknesses: Not many, a bit twitchy - makes for a steeper learning curve then on a standard bike. Any bent is harder to transportBottom Line: The solution to a medical problem (bike induced prostatis), keeping me from doing my usual 4,000 - 7,000 miles per year cycling avg.
I'm getting more and more addicted with each ride.
The R40 has great bang for the buck. Fun to ride also.
Favorite Ride: All of them
