a Commuter
from Glen Rock, NJDate Reviewed: October 26, 2001
Strengths: Fast, relatively light, frame drilled for rack, easy to match clothing to the yellow and black paintWeaknesses: Geared a little high for my tastes, tempermental shifting, frame holes are too close to the brakes for easy rack installation (took the dealer an hour to get it on)
Need to deflate rear tire to removeBottom Line: I was looking for a bike to commute (8 miles one-way) on that would be enough fun to ride on the weekends fast as well. Since I commute with 15 lbs of gear and wanted some flexibility to carry even more, I was looking for a bike with braze-ons and drilled frame holes for rear rack mounting. I was able to find a left over 2000 that still has the steel frame which I find comfortable. The bike is fast and stable even with communting gear except in real strong (20 mph) crosswinds. I may still swap out the rear cog for something with a few more teeth, 23 is a bit high on some of the hills around here. I had some intial problems with getting the Tiagra front derailer adjusted having problems dropping the chain on the front and then balking into the upper rings.
Overall I find the bike very quick around the curves and very quick accelerating.

Strengths: great price, excellent handling, gotta love yellowWeaknesses: depends on who you are, i am 6 foot 1 and 200 pounds. i have a long torso and 34 inseam. for me the geometry of teh bike is bad, needs a longer top tube. i am also very powerful, the rear triangle is way to soft, the chainring is also to soft, as well as the cranksBottom Line: bottom line is if your a proportioned person, like a high cadence and not a gear masher your gonna love this bike. do not swap out a longer stem if your looking to extend the bike. the bike is already maxed, and still handles well. if your big and strong and are a crazy gear grinder go for chro-mo or ti. my overall rating is based on me, another person may give it a five

Strengths: Good solid bike for the money. I bought it for $700, which is a good deal.Weaknesses: There are bikes that have extra's but the cost is in the stratosphere. This is a good value and a good rideBottom Line: Great bike for the money. I thought heavily about upgrading to the next best Fuji ( the American, I think) since many of the upgrades where included in the cost of the bike. Did it make a big difference... not to me. Fuji makes a great product. If you are a beginner or a seasoned bicyclist you will not pedal downt eh road with buyers remorse.

Strengths: Shock absorbing chromoly frame
9-speed Tiagra group
responsivenessWeaknesses: Light rear end
heavy michelin biaxial tires
Exus clipless pedalsBottom Line: The bike handles great and really absorbs the road shock. This bike replaced a Raleigh aluminum road bike I had and the ride quality is stellar.
The back end is a bit light, and you really have to be careful cornering on wet pavement. May have something to do with the Michelin Biaxial tires, which I dont like at all (also heavy).
Tiagra components work fine, although front shifting could be quicker/more responsive. I am not too hip on the black chainring color. The triple up-front allows flexibility.
Because of the seat tube angle, I had to deflate the rear tire to remove it - a little annoying.
DONT BE CONFUSED!!! Although this bike is pictured fully loaded in recent Performance catalogs, it is not a touring bike - a road/sport bike at best.
Favorite Ride: any century

Strengths: I LOVE this bike already and have only had it a short while. I have ridden a TREK 420 for 8 years on 8 RAGBRAI weeks but aged wrists required a shift to Shimano. Because of the condition of roads and the long rides, I wanted a steel frame for comfort. The FUJI Newest w/ Shimano Tiagra components was the right price, steel frame, etc.Weaknesses: NoneBottom Line: For the price ($850) this cromoly frame w/ Shimano Tiagra components is great. I need lots of shifting options on hills and Fuji rides great. Would love to have Ultegra components but didn't have the dime.
Favorite Ride: RAGBRAI
Similar Products Used: 1990 TREK 420; great bike but needed to replace post shift levers.
Bike Setup: FUJI Newest w/ Shimano Tiagra components; replaced Michelin tires w/ Michelin Kevelars; couldn't get the cool yellow stripe but need the toughness!
