Summary: This is my first "new" road bike. It was an awesome deal with the wheels and components. Shimano 105 is $550 by itself. This is a great beginner bike. it's worth every penny.

Bike Setup: Stock Schwinn Fastback Comp with Ultegra group, Cannondale seat post, Selle Success saddle, Shimano
Summary: I bought a 2001 Fastrback Comp but upgraded the 105s to Ultegra, thereby putting it to Fastback Pro specs. The red frame is very attractive. It is stiff but thanks to the Reynolds Uozo Comp fork, my wrists don't get tired. The ride is very comfortable and the Michelin Axial Pros give the necessary traction and control most especially when I am cruising with the peloton. A very dependable bike. Too bad Schwinn don't make them anymore. A very good collector's item.
Strengths: Awesome bike! The frame geometry and the ride. Nice paint job. Topnotch parts: Velomax wheelsets, 3T bars and stem, Reynolds carbon fork and Mich Axial Pros.
Weaknesses: Cheap, heavy seat post! The Velomax wheels flex when turning, causing the FlightDeck wheel magnet to hit the sensor despite a 3mm clearance! Need to retighten the spokes. Paint chips off easily at the rear dropouts.

Bike Setup: Thompson Elite 410mm seatpost. Old D/A (crank and brakes) everything else Tiagra.
Summary: That's ex-road racer.
Wanted a nice commuter bike and saw this Fastback Pro in the shop with flat bars and Tiagra parts. Couldn't believe the price or my luck for finding a 2001 frame at this late date. Changed the parts around and headed for the hills. Wow! maybe I'll start commuting on my Merlin and save this one for the Sunday rides down at Oi.
Strengths: Feels solid and handling is spot on. Climbs, cruises and sprints well, but as everyone knows, it's all in the legs (or it's all in your head.)
Weaknesses: None, which is the problem. I was hoping it would be an inferior bicycle to my Merlin and Waterford, but it isn't.
Just wonder why these things didn't catch on and make Schwinn a wealthy company.

Bike Setup: Mostly stock. Shimano A515 road pedals (cheap and very nice!), and an ITM Aero Bar
Summary: Awesome!!! From the point of view of a XC rider, it's an amazing feeling to be able to keep up with cars on a city street. The bike is light, and really quick from a dead stop. Shifts are very crisp. Compact frame is very stiff and responsive.
Strengths: Overall weight. Very nice for the price paid. Handling is just amazing. Drivetrain is smooth and quiet, as it should be. And it's my favorite color too. Ouzo fork makes the ride nice and smooth.
Weaknesses: Velomax wheels are light, but they are kind of sluggish. I may consider a set of Ultegra or DuraAce wheels. 3T stem is a little bit too long (even thought I'm 6'2")

Summary: I know it is a little early in the game on the Fastback Factory, but I am definitely impressed. I was concerned about going to a compact geometry bike, since I am 6'5" and 240lbs, but I really feel comfortable. I am also concerned about Schwinn being sold to Wal-Bike, but the frame is only part of the bike and Supergo will stand behind it for 2 years. The Velomax Circuit Comp wheels that came with it are wonderful! I got a good deal at $1200. It did come with a 250mm seatpost which is just wrong. You need to be one of those cartoon bulldogs (Tom & Jerry) to fit on a compact geometry bike with a 250mm seatpost. I eBay traded up to a 410mm and it is a perfect fit. My last bike was a 63cm.
