Strength:

Stiff frame that transmits you power to the road. Shimano 105 running gear including the hubs, been very durable. 31 years later still like it. Good on down hills. Love the close ratio rear cog and triple front rings. At the time you couldn't get a better value.

Weakness:

Stock Crank was specialized and corroded to a mess in two years. I replaced with a 105 crank set. Stock seat was a bit hard. It didn't last a year. As I get older a carbon fork and seat post would be nice.

it accelerates nicely and its a great descender. you get a really nice frame for the price, plus 105 components are always nice.

Weakness:

the aluminum fork is a minus on long rides. also, they use a specialized crankset which is heavier than a 105.

this bike is great. it was my first road bike and i havent gotten tired of it. the first upgrade i'd make is a carbon fork to ease long rides. and maybe a 105 crankset, but other than that the bike is gold. its a really nice frame to build on. i'm 6'5" and the 62 fits me better than trek frames.

I came from a Schwinn World Sport and it is like night and day. This bike ia a dreamk to ride. It seems to flatten moderate hills and the speed and acceleration are wonderful.

I could not believe how smooth the shifting was on this bike. I found that this a great bike ofr the bucks spent, considerablely less than either the Treck or Cannondale with the Shimano 105 component set.

nice paint job, 105 component group. Good price.

Weakness:

Specialized seat lacked enough padding due to the stiff Aluminium fame.

Best component group in price range. All the other bike makers used RSX components. Fast and quick (21.5 lbs. for my 50 cm) which helped me place in my first biathlon. The biggest complaint would be the stiffness of the aluminium fame. There's certain paved roads that I avoid because I'm afraid if the bike doesn't come apart I will. I'm considering getting a carbon fork to help smooth out the rough spots. I have just had the stem replaced by the dealer because of a recall. Seems the face plate bolts were to short and some unfortunate rider found out the hard way. The silver generic replacement stem (no markings ??) is not as nice as my orginal black Specialized stem. Overall the bike is more than I expected and I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a mid-range priced bike.

Great bike for the price

Weakness:

None so far

I have about 100 miles on mine so far, and I really love the way it seems to transfer power to the ground. It seems effortlessly fast, and climbs so much better than my other roadie did. I compared several Trek and Klien models, but settled on the Allez because of the price. A carbon fork will probably be in my future, but I am happy for now.

Great handling, fast acceleration, smooth shifting.

Weakness:

Can't think of any

This is an excellent bike for the money. The frame is stiff but rides smoother than my previous road bike, an aluminum Trek. Handling is very secure, even on 45mph mountain decents. The 105 components are very smooth. Of the other bikes I considered, the Trek and Cannondale might have slightly ligher frames (Alpha SL and CAAD 2, but not necessarily better quality. The component groups (mostly RSX) were not nearly as nice. The Raleigh is a good buy at this price point -- nice Kenesis frame and 105 components, but didn't fit me as well as the Allez. The longer top tube on the Allez makes for a nice riding position for me.

Price = good
Shimano 105 = excellent
Paint = very nice

Weakness:

Cranks = okay
Pedals = missing
Saddle = PAINFUL!!!
Triple = Unneccesary

This bike climbs very well and the geometry fits me perfectly. I have found out that the granny ring is simply added weight. The bike other than that is very light and very fast. I mainly use it as a training bike for my mountain bike racing. After riding it for a while I will be racing it this Spring, IT IS JUST THAT DAMNED FAST!!!

A bit rough on the bumpy stuff

A great deal for the price, and without much effort, I got the price down to $899. As long as you can accept the stiff ride, this bike is excellent. I have to qualify this statement though, because I mainly ride a full suspension mountain bike.

Great bike and group set (Shimano 105) for the price. I am 6'2 and I have a good riding position on the bike (56). The speed and acceleration are wonderful. When I jump on the pedal for a acceleration or hill climbing the bike make a great transfert to the ground.
I took several mouth to find this bike but now I really liked it.
