Bought this bike after someone stolen my fast self assembled road hybrid bike year ago. I commute daily from Brooklyn to Manhattan, NY, mostly from early March till late November on distance around 15 miles one way. It keeps me in good spirits and shape and makes prepared for winter ski season. Also I bike during winter time, as well, but not so intensely. Usually make 60-90 miles a week, up to 150 miles a week. Having sitting computer work, it is all I need to refresh myself before or after my work. This light aluminum bike is the best investment for what you can get for it’s price. I did not want to loose money for another stolen expensive bike, so far it is surviving thiefs chained on heavy Criptonite chain and lock on Midtown Manhattan streets.
It is a very fast bike. It was quickly reassembled without additional expenses for my needs at the time of purchase by Gerald Browne, the owner of the Racer’s Edge Bike shop in Canarsie, 1970 Rockaway Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY. (This is a great bike shop with fast and kind service I did not experienced for long time anywhere else in Brooklyn). I have changed curved handle bar to a straight one, 21 inches long, shortened to street riding (between cars). Also a large (senior citizen kind of) seat was changed to the smaller Cloud-9 seat model, maybe other kind of seat would be more comfortable, but I choose that one. 21 speed bike survives my heavy weight well (215 lb) and well bumped NYC streets. The smallest back gear was changed to the size of ~1.75" for me and with the front 3 gears ~4.4: through ~6.5" it is all I need (to chase other bikers). After one year I know I need to change pedals soon, which start grating already. At the first ride after purchasing I have got flat tire on scenic Belt Parkway bike road in Brooklyn, NY. The next day it happened again and I have purchased new tires, specially strengthened against glass cuts, Crossroads EX size 700x38c, and it was the last time I had to change them ever since! Before, riding on my street bike, I could get flat tire weekly, or even every second day sometimes.
Since I leave my bike on street till late hours, I take out front wheel and chain it with the back one. I had to learn how to put it back to avoid brakes’ friction. Knowing that trick, I really enjoy riding on that bike and can recommend this bike to anybody who likes bike commuting, some speed chasing and recreational biking out of town.
Strengths:
Light alu frame, great breaks, smooth shifters and derailers, well working quick release. Great rear largest gear (~5.75") make it very useful for very sharp slopes. Good for the city and out of town trails. Weaknesses:
Tires need to be exchanged for strong ones, get flat imemdiately on city streets. Handle bar rubber handles take off easily, need to be re-pushed back every day. Front gears, cheap, are not re-changeable, and back are not impressive ones for speeding. Seat too large for active biker. Similar Products Used:
