Summary:
It was a six-year-long love affair with my Trek 930 mountain bike that influenced my purchase of a 2003 Trek model 7700 hybrid. As a tall guy (6'4") who requires a 22.5" frame and then raises the seat pretty high, I've found Treks to be particularly comfortable. But at a pricey $1000, the 7700 has some problems that should have been engineered out of a bicycle that expensive (see below).

Strengths:
Great ride, positive control, good comfort and speed.

Weaknesses:
The Shimano DEORE XT rear detailleur unquestionably delivers positive shifting, there are significant problems with the front derailleur that would make you think twice about buying a Trek 7700 -- the chain on the middle front sprocket and either of the two outside rear sprockets will result in noisy chain chatter. Additionally, the chain on the front outside sprocket and either of the two inside rear sprockets will create noise.

Summary:
Last year,on advise of by my bike shop, I bought a 2001 7700. It was a wonderful bike. Put 3500K + winter mag training. (I do +5000K annually) On a ride at the end on May, something came loose but I made it home. At the shop, they discovered the crank had been cross-threaded at the factory. Trek agreed to replace the frame N/C. June went by. Had to be painted shipped from the States.It arrived wrong size. Trek offered to replace the bike minus the tires and rims. July went by. Trek gave me an all-new bike. It's very very nice.
Losing my 2001 like this was like having your dog die. I loved that bike.
The 2002 7700 appears to have been entirely rebuilt from the ground up. Trek has elected to go with their in-house Bontrager rims & tires instead of last year's Rolfs. (Trek mfg. them under lic.0 Last year's Shimano Nexave 401 has been replaced with the Shimano Deore XT. This means that there are now 3 front cranks instead of 2 (both 48max). The ruby metro rockshox remains unchanged. The seat has changed from one with built-in lights to a perineum-friendly black-leather job. After test-driving the new seat, I made them restore my old one. Being able to light up my backside seemed more important than the big comfy couch. The geometry appears unchanged. They've included a nifty pair of sculpted bar-ends this year.

Strengths:
125K afternoons are doable and pain-free.
Side gusts have minimal impact. Eats potholes and never throws you. Enough speed to allow me to crush bike-path johnnies half my age, always. There is a solid transfer of power throughout. Max speed to date 78K downhill. I have ordered a new 52 tooth front crank to replace the stock 48. With downhills and tailwinds I could go faster.

Weaknesses:
With the rockshox, this is not a light bike. You can still average +30K per hr. so it isn't a burden. It attracts way too much attention for my comfort. With quick-release everything you can't have it out of your sight for a second. Anyone who can sprint to my bike faster than I can, is a threat.

I think everything that goes on this bike is meant to its highest quality and matched up perfectly.

Summary:
I first bought this bike because I am going to be in the MS150 and I was a littel hesitate to ride a "road bike". This was a medium for me. I loved this bike. I recently joined the Kansas City bike club for riding and soon realized that I couldn't keep up with the slick fast speed road bikes that everybody was riding except for me. I soon got over my fears and now I have a road bike. Unfornately I don't ride my trek anymore and everytime I look at it, it makes me sad that I have to sell it. It is such a wonderful bike. I would tell everybody to buy one of these bikes. They are truly the "Cadillac of all bikes".

Strengths:
The mobility and the shifting of the gears.

Weaknesses:
Not having a specific manual to help with learning how to ride the bike the right way.

Summary:
It's a slick looking bike. It looks fast even when its standing still. I had a Gary Fischer Kia Tai ..but hell I'm 42 and don't go off roading. And I ain't a spandex roadie either. My wife saw it and had to get a Trek 7500. It's a Trek what more can you say...

Summary:
Great bike for recreational use. 'Use it for 1-3 hour cruises, going to the library, shopping, etc. 'Got about 350 miles on it so far, and no problems. I get a LOT of comments on this bike!

Strengths:
Nice componetry. Extremely comfortable; never want to put it away. Pedals are clipless on one side and platform on the other; nice if you just want to jump on for a short trip down the street.

Weaknesses:
Saddle. Trashed it right away. Dealer could have reviewed operation and maintenance information in more detail. The operating manual is too generic; does not address this particuar bike's components in much detail. The bike was a bit expensive (but worth it).
