Strengths:    The best tandem for riding with: children, a partner who isn't into biking, a stoker who is taller then the Captain or people with disabilities or balance problems, Can be used as a cargo bike. Boom folds for more compact storage.

Weaknesses:    Front heavy so hard to store.
Very long.
Expensive (though not for a custom tandem).
I have an old model and it's not very mechanically refined. Probably better now.

Bottom Line:
The Bilenky Viewpoint puts the Captain (person who steers the bike) on a regular upright seat in back, and the stoker (person who pedals but doesn't steer) in front on a lawn-chairesque recumbent seat. The front passenger does not need to pedal because the two drivetrains work independently.
I bought this bike used on eBay for about half its retail price. The first owner was a couple where the wife could not walk. She used the bike with a hand crank. Bilenky took the expensive hand crank off and traded it for a foot pedal retrofit.
My wife loves this bike. She doesn't have to perch on a narrow bike seat but can lean back, enjoy the view, pedal if she wants to or even just sit and read a book. Heck, with the optional shoulder harness she could even take a nap.
When we had a baby I put a child seat on the back. When baby #2 came I bought a folding travel car seat called a SafeGuard Go. I strapped it to the front seat. Now my three-year old can safely sit strapped in and surrounded by the bike seats aluminum frame. A conversion kit is also available so a child as young as three can pedal along. There is even a Bilenky seat that allows two small children to sit in a double seat that fits in place of the single adult seat.
The low center of gravity and aluminum frame of the passenger seat makes this the safest tandem for the stoker. S/he cannot go over the (non-existent) handlebars. If the bike tips, s/he is surrounded by a metal seat frame which takes the leading edge of the pavement, instead of the stoker's body.
My wife and kids love this bike, and so do I. I highly recommend it.
