Strengths:    Sturdy frame, carbon front fork, great components for the money. I've read some complaints about the wheels but I've had no issues - maybe because of my little exposure to rough roads. Assembled it out of the box, took it to my LBS for fine tuning, degrease it every 500 miles, and lube it every 100, park it in basement to keep clean - no issues. This is one very reliable bike for the money.

Weaknesses:    I replaced the stock seat with a Serfas Performance RX Saddle ($65)- highly recommended - no more numbness. Also replaced the peddles (I was getting hot spots in one foot) with Shimano PD6700 Ultegra SPD-SL peddles and SM-SH11 yellow cleats with Sidi shoes.

    Bottom Line:
I bought this bike in April 2008 after extensive internet research. Great value for the money! It just turned 6000 miles 28 months later, two days ago. I ride it on a local 11 mile bike path which is not as rough as most roads and on a trainer in my basement during the winter months. I've had one broken spoke, one broken rear deraillieur cable, and occasional wheel truing needs. That's it.

Strengths:    Bike is a great entry level recreational road bike. Has solid mid-level components, a light aluminum frame with aggressive geometry and pretty flashy looks.

Weaknesses:    Stock seat is not good. Stock chain got real noisey unless dripping with lube. Stock tires had no puncture resistance.

    Bottom Line:
Got my Vent Noir January 2009 and prepped it myself right out of the box. Just followed the directions. Put 1100 miles on it last year with only seat, tire and chain up-grades. Added Selle San Marco Island Ponza seat, Vittoria Diamonte Pro tires and Sram chain, bike planet 8.0 computer couple of water bottles and a cheap underseat tire kit. On your first ride you immediately just know, this bike is light, fast, and durable. I've got no complaints, other than I wish they offered a touring version with steel frame, 700x32 tires, rack and fenders.

Bike Setup:   This year I added a touring crankset from Sugino, Sram touring cassette and another new sram chain to complete the drive train re-do. Bikes goes up mountains now while I don't miss a beat while holding a conversation.

Strengths:    good components, smooth ride, great at climbing, good city race bike.

Weaknesses:    spend $30 and rebuild the rear wheel if you ride more than just errand rides around town.

    Bottom Line:
great bike, now has 2000+ miles on it and all i've had to complain about is weak spokes on the rear wheel (3 broken). if you keep the chain lubed, true the rear wheel occasionally, keep the tires inflated and explore new roads frequently, this bike will make you a happy bike rider. oh, and girls dig it 'cause it looks sexy...

Similar Products Used:   bought a fuji newest 3.0 for about the same price, which was stolen, then bought my motobecane. no comparison. i was actually grateful that the fuji was stolen so that i could ride a real bike.

Bike Setup:   take it out of the box, figure out how to put on the wheels (like any biker should),lube the chain and ride it like you're late for work! have fun, and make some guys with beer guts and jerseys look like fools.

    Strengths:    Shifting, frame, everything!

    Weaknesses:    None thus far

    Bottom Line:
Fantastic value for the money. I took a spec sheet into two-three bicycle shops and told them I wanted those components. They showed me bikes in the 1500-1700 price range. My bike was less than 700 and that included shipping. I have the 2008 and they definitely improved the tires and wheels. Great components, a smooth ride. Highly recommend.

    Strengths:    price... good components...

Weaknesses:    i had to put the bike together myself, not a big deal, for me... you could always bring it to your LBS for assembly

    Bottom Line:
i've been riding a hybrid for the last few years and i decided to get my hands on a road bike... i looked for over 2 months everyday on craigs list, ebay, etc... i finally decided on buying a new bike online, it felt like kind of a risk, because i wouldn't get to try the bike first... i did my homework and figured out what size and geometry i wanted and then i picked a bike (moto vent noir)... i couldn't be happier with my purchase... i got sooo much bike for the money...
