Strengths: Stiff good climbing. Excellent ride for stoker.Weaknesses: I wish it could shed a few pounds.Bottom Line: I love this bike, but more importantly my wife (stoker) loves this bike.
We have had three tandems over the last 20 years and this is THE bike that lets you enjoy the ride without the bike constantly reminding you that you are on a tandem. Every other tandem I have ridden has not been as comfortable as the Duet.
As a captain, the bike fits me well and seems the closest to my road bike in fit of any of the bikes I have ridden. Stable, easy steering and great shifting make this bike easy to control. The softride give the captain the advantage of a stoker that is not being violently bounced every time you go over a bump in the road. The softride really makes the captain’s job easier and more comfortable.
For the stoker the Duet gives a stiff rear end for climbing and the ultimate soft suspension for vertical cushion. This is nothing like a suspension seat post. This really suspends the stoker and gives them a comfy ride. It took my wife only a short time to get used to the motion and now she actually wants to ride the tandem vs. me begging her to with our other bikes.
