Strengths: Price, durability, comfortable steel ride, component selection.Weaknesses: When we hop on a $3000 road tandem there is a difference. Our bike feels heavier, springier, and less responsive. That said, this is something we never notice until we jump onto a better bike. Ane even when we ride alongside better bikes, we keep up just fine and have just as much fun.Bottom Line: My wife and I bought a New-Old-Stock 2001 tandemania milano in 2005 from a bike shop that was selling it on Ebay. We paid $699, plus about $40 in shipping. This was an extreme bargain for a brand new bike, especially considering that in 2001 the bike came equipped with shimano 105 shift/brake levers and front derailer, and an xt rear derailer. It seems it's hard to find a 105 equipped single bike for that price. After about 2 weeks of training rides we rode the bike from seattle to minneapolis, camping all the way and loaded down with 4 panniers and a fully loaded BOB trailer. We had no mechanical problems with the bike on that trip or on the 1000 miles or so we've done since. The bike handled very easily fully loaded as such as well as empty. Fully loaded we descended mountain passes at 50 mph, even passing cars, and the rig was as solid as a tank. I am 5'11" and my wife is 5'6". If either of us were an inch shorter we might not fit the size Large bike.
For the price we paid, the bike was a preposterous deal. We love this bike every time we get on it. There are still similar deals online if you search patiently. For the current msrp of $1500 or so and with the current sora-tiagra mix, I would have to consider my other options more carefully before deciding.

Strengths: value, in the grand scheme it is a well appointed entry level tandem at a good priceWeaknesses: none yet other than a few cut corners on appointments. Does the frame flex, yes. It is steel however and it is quite comfortable to ride. The flex really fades away as the team gets more in tuneBottom Line: Good tandem for the money, it was questionable at full price wether to spend the extra money on a more well respected tandem brand or an alu frame But I got a great deal and am not disappointed, actually pleasantly surprised. Some upfront obvious upgrades are needed including seats travel agents, pedals.

Strengths: Given the price, the bike comes with a nice feature list. The stoker's shock absorber seatpost is nice. The frame is well appointed with lots of bottle bosses, holes for racks and the like. The wheels are decent and include some nice tires. The components are great, even including STI levers! The drive train is of good quality and shifts pretty well.Weaknesses: The brakes can be a nuisance to adjust. I don't think it is these particular brakes but rather v-brakes in general. I don't really like the factory saddles. They are a little too mushy for my taste.Bottom Line: I have found the KHS Tandemania Milano to be a great value-priced, starter-level tandem that provides room to grow. For the price, you can't beat the features.

Bike Setup: My bike came pretty much factory, except the shop installed some gadgets to make the bike rideable b
