Strengths: Shifts nicely, light and a smooth ride. I managed to keep pace with a seasoned rider on his Trek 5200 :)Weaknesses: Difficult to change flats with the Matrix rims.Bottom Line: Excellent bike for money (bought in Canada with all upgrades mentioned other than pedals). Purchased in 1999, I'm about to pass it to my wife, then buy a new Trek 1500. I have not had any problems with it, and no defects.

Strengths: Tough and Light It hold up under my 210lb
butt!Weaknesses: The head set failed prematurelyBottom Line: Bike is holding up well. had to replace headset at about 6 months must have gotten wet, replaced it with a Chris King unit (the guys at my bike shop said this one is bullet proof!). Logged 2500 miles in the first year of on this bike and the head set was the only problem! Overall I would rate the bike very good with the components it came with. Mostly 105's and tiagra. Nice bike for the money.

Strengths: Durable, good drivetrain & wheels. Carbon fork. Treks warrantyWeaknesses: Saddle way too soft. Hard to change flats with Matrix rims.Bottom Line: Great basic bike. 105 drivetrain works fine, had to replace left shifter under warranty but it was taken care of without complaint. Wheels are durable if not basic. But the rims are shallow and make changing tires a pain. Really a great bike for the money. A little stiff in the ride department but not any worse than others in the same price range that I tried. Change the saddle and ride it.

Strengths: 105 group, carbon fork, nice finish qaulity & colour, american made, TREK name & quality.Weaknesses: tiagra frt derailleur, no name brakesBottom Line: New to sport - had narrowed down to TREK 1000, 1200 or 2000.Price range of 1000-1500 Spent high end on budget and bought 2000 for the 105 group & shimano clipless pedals, carbon fork. Still early, but very satisfied so far. Light, quick & smooth - very happy with shifting. Have heard how stock seat is uncomfortable but I have no problem with it. Shop was very helpful during search & purchase. Love the bike....wife on the other hand has not commented!

Strengths: Handles the course pavement like a dream. This ride is comparable to my friends Litespeed. The weight of this ride is less than 20 lbs. which contributes to it's quick acceleration and nimbleness. This is a great machine for the price. I highly recommend the bike to anyone. Change to a carbon post on purchase.Weaknesses: Haven't found any yet, because I built this up from scratch. Get your shop to change whatever you feel doesn't suit you.Bottom Line: This is a replacement frame and fork for my old 2000 that was purchased in 1992. The is no comparison between this frame and the old one. I feel like I'm riding a machine with full suspension...the ride is that smooth. My back is not what it used to be and this frame certainly makes a huge difference to how I feel when returning from a ride. I just can't believe how wonderful this ride is.
