Strengths: Lighter than Titanium, this aluminum frame is stiff and responsive. Components work and shift very well.Weaknesses: May upgrade brake if I lived in another part of the country but for the Texas flatlands they work fine.Bottom Line: Always wanted a tandem so the wife and I could share a ride without her getting dropped. I love this bike. Never thought I could afford a tandem but this is a sweet bike with the same frame as the T-3000. Ours is a T-2000 2004 road tandem. Rides and shifts smoothly,Even with my big A--.
Favorite Ride: beauty ant the beast, tyler tx.
Price Paid:
$1999.00
Purchased At: richardson bike mart
Similar Products Used: For recreational riding you will not find a better dollar value. Never dreamed to get a tandem of this quality for under 3k much less 2k. Go getcha one, you won't be sorry.
Bike Setup: See Trekbikes.com for better spec's than I could list here. There MSR is 2199 but most are selling for 1999

Strengths: Solid frame, good looks, drop bars this year, good tires.Weaknesses: Didn't trust the stock canti brakes. Saddles aren't top shelf. Weight.Bottom Line: This is our first tandem, though we have rented them before on vacation. I am an avid cyclist and my wife is an occasional cyclist. The bike (a 2003 with drop bars) works great for us. Its not the lightest or the trickest components, but it shifts well ( some minor rattling on the front derailluer). Good tires, solid (but heavy) wheels. I put on Avid arch rival brakes with with power boosters. Switched the stock stoker saddle for a little better womans saddle (though it came with a WSD saddle). we've really enjoyed the bike and feel it is a good value
Favorite Ride: Little Six Gap

Bike Setup: Stock except for brakes and stoker saddle. Future upgrades will include wheels, but not much else. Also put on SPD's.

Strengths: Versitile setup - it's a hybrid tandem!
48 spoke wheel set great for heavier teams.
Very adjustable for stoker. Nice if you don't always have the same riding partner.
Less than $2K for an aluminum frame!Weaknesses: May upgrade drivetrain components later -- shifting can be a little rough.
The front seat seems a bit close to the handlebars for the frame height.
TREK was not kidding about the torque setting for the timing chain tensioning bolt. Broke the first one. :-(Bottom Line: This is a review of the 2002 model, but the only major difference is the derailleurs. This is our first tandem. It's a terrific rec. setup that handles paved/dirt roads and rails-to-trails all very well. The bike was a bargain when compared to the many custom tandems on the market. It seem unlikely to us that recreational tandem riders (~500 miles per year for this bike) would really benefit from something more expensive. This bike is a great value.
Favorite Ride: Pine Creek Trail
Price Paid:
$1650.00
Purchased At: The Bicycle Center
Similar Products Used: No tandems, just single road and mt. bikes. Compared this purchase mainly to Santana Fusion/Encore, but this ended up being $2K less.
Bike Setup: Stock except swapped out rear saddle for a more comfortable woman's split/gel saddle and changed to SPD pedals.
