Bottom Line:
The Yakima Boa is an adequate mounting system for your rooftop rack. I purchased one several years ago when I had a sports car with a short roofline. The boa was the only Yakima system available at the time that allowed for variable spread between the crossbars.

It seems to hold my bikes extremely secure. I imagine that getting the bike mounted is harder without a tray because you cannot plop the wheel in the tray after lifting it above your vehicle until you get the fork skewer mounted. Instead you either have to hold your bike suspended until you get the fork in the rack's skewer, or you have to rest the wheel on your roof/sunroof.

I don't have experience with any other roof racks, but the noise generated by the large shape of the BOA fork mounts seem to generate more wind noise than I imagine low profile mounts like the viper would.

In all, I'm very happy, they do there job, they look the part, and they don't cause a problem with my sunroof. My ratings may seem a little low simply because I don't have anything to compare the BOAs too.

My cat loves BOA enclosures

Whenever I come home from a ride I sit on a chair in my bike room for a minute or two. As soon as I turn the BOA enclosures on my S-Works shoes to take them off the cat comes in a plops on her side at my feet. Almost like clockwork.Read More »

Boa lacing system

If the system fails, the shoe would seem to be useless. Now my other shoes with 2 Velcro straps an ... Read More »

Disappointment with Boa Closure Shoes

Recently tried a pair of shoes with the Boa Closure and found that the inside of the right shoe would come into contact with the crank arm when out of the saddle on very steep climbs or in a sprint. Never had a problem with traditional shoes with the ankle strap and buckle closure. Found the shoes o ... Read More »

specialized boa lacing maintenance

Just picked up a pair of Specialized BGR shoes. They are great. But I notice some "maintenance" instructions to the boa system. How many of you out there actually do the maintenance on them ? (ie remove the buckles, and treat the line with a spray etc. etc. ) What's the frequency I should follow ? ... Read More »
