Strengths:    Very user friendly, customization.

Weaknesses:    Glitchy. Poor product support. After 15 months of use, my Garmin Edge 500 began to freeze and/or power down secondary to vibrations/large bumps. Since the Garmin warranty is only valid for 1 year from date of purchase, I then was asked to pay another $90 as a service charge to have it repaired.

Bottom Line:
Great when it works, but mine stopped functioning after only 15 months.

Strengths:    easy to use and customize 3 screens of data, small, easy to change from bike to bike

Weaknesses:    none

Bottom Line:
best cycling computer I've ever used. small, light, easy to use, easy to upload data to strava or WKO, Ant power from Quark, this thing is super easy to customize on 3 different screens the data you want to see, long battery life, tons of memory. I've never deleted a workout from the memory. easy to switch from bikes. Can't go wrong with this one.

Strengths:    Features, menu customization, long battery life, sleek design.

Weaknesses:    I can't really think of any - the unit has been flawless for me since day one.

Bottom Line:
I've had this unit for 5 months now and all I can say is wow. I love all the features, long battery life and size/sleekness of the unit. It has multiple pages that I can scroll and view items that I am interested in and can also be customized. I purchased the unit along with a heart rate monitor and cadence meter and at first it was a bit of information overload. Over time I've come to rely on the unit for my training and to brag/smack talk w/friends on Strava.

Quick help with Trek "DuoTrap" / Garmin Edge 500 install

Maybe this should go somewhere else--but I'm not sure where. My new Trek Domane 4.0 is on the bike stand on the back porch and I'm trying to install the Trek DuoTrap speed/cadence sensor on it in time for tomorrow's ride. So far no real difficulty, BUT I just realized since the Edge 500 is a G ... Read More »

Garmin Edge 500 going on auto pause too frequently

I've had it for about four years now, but just recently I noticed it going back and forth from auto pause to auto resume over and over-only when I'm riding near my wife on her bike-never when I'm riding alone. It does mainly at speeds under 10 mph but sometimes at speeds in the teens and up. She's g ... Read More »

Garmin Edge 500 giving wrong elevation gain

On a ride recently I noticed afterwards that the total climbing was 4,700+ ft. When I uploaded it to Garmin Connect it had only 3,200 or so ft. I thought that maybe I was wrong about the 4,700 ft. I made sure after my next ride to check the total climbing and again. When I uploaded the data, the cli ... Read More »

Garmin Edge 500 back plate - broken tab?

Has anyone else had a mounting tab broken off from the backplate of the 500? I know at least 2 people with this issue. Garmin will not warrant it after 1 yr, and Garmin will not even allow the end user to buy what seems to be a simple backplate to replace it. I guess twisting the Garmin 500 on an ... Read More »
