Strengths:    price

Weaknesses:    durability

Bottom Line:
After a half year I had to replace my shorty 4 because the inside area that the adjustment screw goes into got stripped out and would not hold. This happened after the second time I adjusted it. I am planning on upgrading the the shorty ultimate.

Avid Shorty 4 brakes - squealing like mad

What's the best cure for squealing. Avid Shorty 4 brakes. I've tried different brake pads (Koolstop blacks), along with adjusting the brake pads toed in, flat, and toed out. It only seems to be the front brakes that are chattering, chirping and squawking. If it helps, they are mounted on a Lemond P ... Read More »

Brake Pad recommendations (Avid 4 shorty / Bont Race lites)

I just built up my first 'cross bike using components purchased from local racers. I entered my first 'cross race and had a blast doing it. Anyway, the brakepads I'm using just plain suck. I'm going to try reducing the spring tension and see if that takes care of it :-S Other suggestions? ... Read More »

It still has the OEM Avid Shorty 4 cantilever brakes. The rear works OK. The front squeals and cau ... Read More »

shorty 4's, I need something better...

I have an X0-2. Love the bike, but hate the brakes. I thought I was done with up grades for the spring, but I need to stop. I have been toying with the idea of just using XTR v brakes, or speed digits. But I don't like the rollamagig. Are there any brakes that are light weight, and actually ... Read More »
