Strengths: Very warm. Fairly comfortable and usable.Weaknesses: Minor design oddities.Bottom Line: So far, having worn these gloves in temperatures ranging from the upper thirties to mid-forties, I have to say I'm pretty pleased. At 45 degrees (F), these gloves are simply too warm, but this is great for someone with poor circulation in the extremities, like me.
The placement of the hard-warmer pouch on the back of the hand is odd, but I guess it's the only place to put one.
Note that this is a substantial redesign, apparently, from the model shown on the Specialized site. My LBS ordered the XXL glove for me, but I bought the XL instead because the design is so much better. To distinguish between them quickly, look for reinforced patches on the palms of the newer gloves.
The XL glove does not leave much room for liners, compared with other gloves. They probably didn't figure you'd need liners with these gloves.
It seemed that the thumb length was proportionally shorter than the other fingers, for some reason. While there was about a quarter inch of material beyond the tips of my fingers, my thumbs barely fit.
The hook-and-loop wrist closure does practically nothing to tighten the glove opening.
The palms are grippy, and the gloves are articulated well enough that you can (for example) shift with STI shifters without too much frustration. You won't be doing needlepoint in these, but you have to expect a loss of dexterity in a winter glove.
