Strength:

Great buckle system, Stiff soles, comfortable and appears durable.

Weakness:

Strange adapter plates that come with these shoes. Thankfully, I got around having to use them with my Speedplay pedals.

I had to write something about these shoes since they've been very impressive right out of the box. I've had a pair Sidi Genius and Specialized BG Carbon Comp shoes in the past, and these are just as good as those (maybe a little better), and at 1/3 the price! These soles are much stiffer than the Sidi's and give me better power transfer then any shoe I've ever used.
I'm really impressed by DMT so far. Who would-a-thunk?

Strength:

very comfortable, especially for narrow feet
sole seems plenty stiff

Weakness:

required cleat adapter
beefy closure strap offer no give

I picked these up as a backup because of the great price. I had been using The DMT Spirit RSX and was happy with them. This Ultimax is slightly more narrow then the RSX and seems to offer more arch support. I have narrow size 48 feet and these work well for me. Overall I like these better fit-wise than the Spirit RSX. This shoe uses a single ratchet closure up top and 2 Velcro straps down lower. Its easy to get a good fit. The Ratchet closure uses a synthetic strap that is very beefy and has little give. If you overtighten the strap they will become uncomfortable very quickly. The shoe uses an insole adapter so you need an insert even for Look 3-bolt pattern (this was included). I guess these go back to the days of 4-bolt Times and Speedplay cleats. I thought the insert may be a problem but it seems to have no impact on perfromance and does not signifinatly alter "stack height". I am using Look Keo Sprint pedals and the sole insert allows full range of placement for the cleat. I thought these were a tremendous deal at $65. Paying full MSRP of $240 is another story.
