Strengths:    Fit (for the right foot), reasonably cool in the summer, good adjustability with the straps, solid retention and stiff (with carbon insert). Also, very thin total sole thickness.

Weaknesses:    Finding the inserts is like going on a treasure hunt.

Bottom Line:
If the shoe fits.... I have wide feet, in the ball and toe area. During the years of straps and toes clips, my feet were squeezed into Detto Pietro's, Adidas Merckx, etc. Finally Puma came out with a pair, still too narrow but somewhat better. Into the clipless era and into Diadora's and then Sidi Genius I's. Finally I bought a pair of Carnac Lemond's. Nirvana! I have 4 pairs of them (a couple of Legends as well) just in case they ever went out of production. Sure enough, they have. A couple of years ago I bought my first pair of Evolution's from Sierra Trading Post. I found a pair of carbon inserts for Time pedals and I was off. They're lighter, much lighter than the Carnacs and offer more adjustability in tightness with 3 straps instead of two plus laces.

The contour of the last and the contour of the outersole are different from the Carnacs. The last is flatter than the Carnac and likewise, so is the outersole. I've found my pedaling style to have changed somewhat with my heel now lower at the bottom of the pedal stroke. Not good or bad, just different.

I don't think that they'll last as long as the Carnac's as the quality of materials and construction is as high as that of Carnac. Also, the non-mesh upper material is synthetic and prone to wear from abrasion.

Another thing, NW distribution is spotty and not reliable. Finding Evolution inserts in your size (dedicated sizing), drilling pattern and carbon or fibra can be elusive as picking winning lottery numbers.

In summary, a great shoe.

Strengths:    light and stiff

Weaknesses:    I think they're being phased out by the new Revolution....but that may actually be a strength as the Evolutions are getting cheaper....

Bottom Line:
Great shoe, light, stiff and comfortable. Shoes are so subjective, however....but if you're in the market, try a pair...
