Strengths:    Attractive, good feel, solid grip and strong. Nice looking addition to a vintage bicycle.

Weaknesses:    Doesn't add padding. If that's what you need and still want to use Brooks, consider doing a base wrapping with another tape and putting the Brooks on top.

Expensive!

Bottom Line:
This tape adds a classic look to a bike, especially in the tan color. The feel of real leather is nice and it doesn't get slippery when wet. The Brooks product is strong and should hold up longer than cork tape. I sprayed my tape, after installation, with 3M Scotchguard to make cleaning grime off easier.

Strengths:    Great feel, sticky when wet, looks amazing, and lasts forever.

Weaknesses:    The light brown color turns ugly quickly, price.

Bottom Line:
I have had tried this tape twice. Currently I am still using it. The Honey brown color turned to a brownish green after getting wet but the tape itself held up just fine. I changed bars on that bike and so I used different tape. But on my other bike I am still running the same brooks 10,000 miles later. The tape really looks like it has not been used. I love this tape and think it is worth the money.

Thoughts on Leather Bar Tape

I picked up a couple of Brooks saddles and thinking of getting leather bar tape. Nashbar has black for only $35, Brooks tape is around $57, Velo Orange tape is around $82 and Handlebra is the most expensive. I have a chance to make my Christmas wish list. Is the Handlebra tape worth the extra money ... Read More »

Where to find leather bar tape

My wife has a mid 80's Schwinn Traveler with the original white leather bar tape, and its in good shape, and I am jealous. All I can find on eBay is synthetic or cork, what gives? I usually am a cheapo white cloth athletic tape guy but the white leather would be nice.Read More »

I know it looks really cool, but I was wondering if anyone's got any feedback on how it feels, how it holds up after riding in the rain, etc. THanks!Read More »
