Fizik Arione Donna Saddles

DESCRIPTION

The ladies-specific Donna K:ium Wingflex Women's Saddle is Fizik's answer to the call from female riders who loved the shape of the Arione, but wanted something that addressed their unique anatomical needs while still having the pro-level quality they could find in the men's versions. The Arione Donna K:ium Wingflex Women's Saddle takes the shape of the regular Arione and reforms it, making it slightly shorter and slightly wider at the rear to accommodate a woman's wider sit bones. A saddle's comfort lies mainly in its shape, but the Donna K:ium Wingflex also makes use of a high density foam padding in order to create the pressure relief channel that runs the length of the saddle. But don't worry that you'll feel like you're riding on a squishy foam pad that hits you in all the wrong places. To the contrary, Fizik has a scale by which they measure their saddles from plush to medium to firm, and the Donna K:ium Wingflex comes in somewhere between medium and firm to offer the right kind of support in the right places. But since the shape, which includes the wider sit platform and the soft-tissue relieving channel, has been tailored to fit the women's anatomy, this saddle will give you a comfortable ride whether you're taking a few laps around the park to spin the legs or are near the end of your mid-summer century ride through the hills. The shell itself, like the men's version, is made from nylon that is reinforced with carbon, and it makes use of their Wingflex technology. The Wingflex shell flexes downward in the critical area where the inner thighs contact the saddle allowing for more efficient, full-range movement while pedaling. The saddle rails are made from a special k:ium alloy and 'v tube' section. Compared to full titanium rails, K:ium actually proves to have a higher strength to weight ratio and offers 8% weight savings. Since the chrome/silicon alloy that Fizik uses is super resistant to corroding, you can have unlimited confidence in the life-long strength of the rails, no matter how wet and messy your rides may be. The Fizik Arione Donna K:ium Wingflex Women's Saddle has a Black/anthracite cover made from microtex microfiber and is silk printed with a flower design for the subtlest feminine touch. Tipping the scale at less than 200 grams, the Donna K:ium Wingflex is in line with some of the lightest minimalist men's saddles. It's ICS compatible so it can accommodate any of Fizik's saddle packs or their rear taillight.

Strength:

Very comfortable nose, very light, firm padding, seems well made.

Weakness:

The flex "wings" can dig into the back of the leg on people with large thighs.

This saddle started out well. I was impressed by the comfortable nose, firm padding, and overall quality. Unfortunately, I was chafed raw at the back of the legs by the back edge of it. It was a bit too pear-shaped for me. I'd consider trying the mens model if I could just borrow one for a while instead of buying it.
This saddle would suit someone who has a wide pelvis but thin thighs, doesn't like cut-outs, but needs pressure relief in the nose area. Didn't work for me, but it's a nice saddle.
