Ultegra-grade shifters that allow for the use of 4 or 8 degree shims that move the brake lever 8mm or 16mm closer to the handlebars. Adjustable reach by use of shims.
Strengths: Work fantastically as advertised for those with smaller hands.
Weaknesses: None noted.
Bottom Line:
I purchesed a 2009 Roubaix which came with Shimano 105 shifters. My small hands did not allow me to brake with my fingers wrapped around the levers. I felt I had a safety issue. I had the shifters changed out to the ST-R700's. The cost of the conversion was justified as it increased my confidance and made me feel safer as my hands easily grabbed the levers using the 8mm shims, when on the hood position. I can now also brake from the drop position which was near impossible with to original shifters. I also think that the shifting is more definative and crisp.
