Price Paid:  $0.00 at Friend had an old on

Favorite Ride:
n/a

Bike Setup:
custom Litespeed

Summary:
This is a great stem. Sure, it's not that light but it's strong, stiff, and trustworth (unlike open face-plate stems)

Strengths:
Stiff. No noise. Single bolt--no open face plate gives peace of mind.

Weaknesses:
Maybe a little heavy

Similar Products Used:
Deda Newton (worst stem ever)

Price Paid:  $35.00 at Excel Sports, I thin

Favorite Ride:
anything flat to downhill

Bike Setup:
3T or Performance bars... only thing relevant...

Summary:
Bought my first one back around '95 because I couldn't find an aluminum stem that wouldn't creak or slip (I"m a pretty big dude for a cyclist).

Strengths:
Extremely stiff. Troublefree and low maintenance, unlike so many of the ultralight stems of today. No removable faceplate gives me a feeling of security and peace of mind. Unbelievable value at this price. Slick polished finish.

Weaknesses:
Heavier than some. Non removable faceplate makes it a pain in the ARSS to get bars, especially anatomic ones threaded through the stem.

Similar Products Used:
Control Tech, Old Modolo (Yeah, I've been riding with an Eclypse for a while)

Price Paid:  $25.00 at Nashbar

Favorite Ride:
backroads

Summary:
As far as quill stems go, this is one of the best ones. It looks great, is stiff, and cheap. Chrome finish is very durable and looks great on a lugged frame.

Strengths:
Good looks, stiffness, wide bar clamp lends good stability, low cost, medium low weight for a quill stem.

Weaknesses:
The wide bar clamp makes threading the bars through difficult. Open the clamp with the bolt threaded through backwards.

Price Paid:  $35.00 at Ital-Tecno

Bike Setup:
CAAD3 w/ Shimano D-A and Ultegra

Summary:
Like a couple other commenters, I had a hard time getting my bars through the clamp. I use TTT Forma SLs with an ergo bend. I probably won't buy this stem again because I'm planning to stick with the Forma SL bars.

Nonetheless, now that I have the bars set up, I have no complaints about the stem.

Strengths:
Inexpensive, good looking, lightweight, no noise

Weaknesses:
Non-detachable faceplate

Price Paid:  $25.00 at Performace Bicycle

Favorite Ride:
Palo Alto to Half Moon Bay

Bike Setup:
Trek Y Foil, Chris King Headset, Ultegra drivetrain and brakes,
ITM Pro 260 handlebars, custom wheels

Summary:
Low cost, works great. What more is there to say?

In response to one review here, I had ZERO problem
threading the ITM Pro 260 bars through the stem.
The single bolt design requires more patience to install,
but they are stronger and do not creak like the two
bolt designs.

Strengths:
Strong, stiff, no creaks, inexpensive

Weaknesses:
None

Icon, Salsa, Deda
