Summary:
Look Ergo Stem HCS

Well I agree with most of the reviews on the regular Look Ergo Stem. Heavy, flexes, funky and prone to move when you don't want it to (thats if you never maintain it). But, for someone who wants a bike to do road races/rides and also do a time trials its great. I attach some aero bars and lower the stem and I have a super aero bike with the adjustment of two bolts, lets see you do that with another stem? Due to the great range of the adjustments possible you can drop it half way down the head tube (depending on your size frame). Also, numbered marks on side let you record your perfect fit and if it does slip you can easily put it back to where it was.

Yea, it will slip on you but only if you don't check it. It happened to me once and never again, just make sure its tight and all is well even on rough roads. Yes I worry but so far 2+ years and only one slip on a ride.

The new version (2003) has a removeable front face clamp like most Ahead stems, if I owned a bike shop I'd have a couple of these and I'd be able to fit any rider perfectly, then if they didn't want this stem they could get the exact measurments for one that matched up and in a second swap out the stem without removing the shifters or bar tape. Maybe it too good of an idea?

Strengths:
Fully adjustable, great for a bike to do regular rides and time trials. Great to get the perfect fit, you just keep adjusting it till you are fully confortable.

Weaknesses:
Heavy, looks odd, slips (if you don't maintain/tighten it).
