at On the bike when I b Favorite Ride: Every ride Bike Setup: 1981 Colnago Super (white) w/ full Campy components, Thompson post, Mavic Open Pro wheels. Summary: I concur with many of the other reviews - this is a stiff, reliable, never-have-to-think-about-it component. I'm a heavier rider (210 lbs) and do quite a bit of climbing, but have yet to notice any flex and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Strengths: - Stiff
- Reliable (so far)
- Simple, straightforward quality Weaknesses: - The stickers aren't particularly to my liking - but hey, they come off easily enough.
- Why a gold cap? Similar Products Used: None

$0.00 Favorite Ride: every ride Bike Setup: trek oclv with dura ace Summary: a classic indeed. rigid, dependable, beautiful. guess these quill stems are a bit dated now but this is the best if that's what you need Strengths: see above
sticker comes off easy(it looks better with out it!) Weaknesses: I don't know the weight of this and dont really care. I haven't even lifted it but I imagine it's heavier then others because it's steel and a quil but i could be wrong. Similar Products Used: several varieties of cinelli

at Excelsports.com Bike Setup: Klein Quantum Race
Felt S22 Tri bike Summary: Reasonably priced, stiff quill stem that does what it is supposed to do. Good weird sizes too (i use a 8cm) Strengths: Variety of sizes available (5cm and up). Stiff, no creaking. Weaknesses: I just wish mine had the removable faceplate (salsa SUL) so i wouldnt have to take off the bar tape to change stems. Similar Products Used: Syncros hinged, Titec

at Colorado Cyclist Bike Setup: Trek Y-Foil Summary: Been upgrading every part on my bike lately & finally got to the stem.
The trend has been to cut weight but made an exception here.
Went from a 235 gm ICON to this 268 gm stem (100 mm weight)
in favor of power transfer & stiffness. I weigh 200 lb & am a power
spinner. Believe me, the effcient energy transfer more than makes
up for 33 gms. I took the sticker off & painted the gold cap black. Now
it looks smokin'. Strengths: Strong (lifetime warranty)
Stiff (puts the power forward)
Hot lookin' (take the sticker off) Weaknesses: none Similar Products Used: ICON Bordeaux, ICON Graphite (quills)

at LBS Favorite Ride: US21 to Idaho City Bike Setup: '97 Bianchi Campione (last of the fully-lugged). Summary: What can you say, it does the job well. You're not going to get featherweight with a quill stem and a cro-moly fork, but this baby is rock solid. Zero flex (I'm 200 lbs). Handlebar clamp never slipped on me. The 15-degree rise is great for beginners that haven't developed a lot of lower back flexibility yet. It looks like new after a year, the paint is thick so it's hard to scuff it up. Sun's up, time to ride! We'll give this baby 5 flaming bowls of Salsa... Strengths: Bullet-proof construction, thick paint, 105-degree rise for no back pain. Weaknesses: Not real pretty, but that's just a personal preference. Similar Products Used: Stock quill stem.
