Summary: MK2 style cassette made up of all steel cogs and alloy spacers, the two inner pairs of cogs are pinned to steel bosses. The Campy C10 chain lasts about 2,000 miles and by then you will have to replace it, if not the cassette will die soon after.
The Shimano 10 chain is a bit narrower and shifts a bit cleaner because of this, but it only lasts about 1,000 miles before chain rollers start sloping about, resulting in chain clatter. The Wipperman s/s chain i tried only worked for 600 miles, and by then it was so stretched, i cringed as i saw it riding up on the front chain rings, it was possible to pull it almost totally away from the frontal portion of the teeth on my 53 ring. this was an expensive and useless chain that is wider and shifts worse than the Campy one, HOWEVER the reusable link works really well on the Campy and Shimano chains, inspect and replace it as necessary. Strengths: Steel is way cheaper and as long lasting as most riders will ever need compared to the more expensive Ti and alloy cogs. The weight gained by an all steel cassette is minumum with this MK2 design and once you change your chain as required, its possible to get at least 10,000 miles out of this steel cassette. I'll be going past 5,000 miles with my present cassette soon, and the teeth profiles looked hardly worn when i checked them this week. Lets face it, you will have to replace the cassette eventually, so go with a good quality one thats mid to above mid value. Weaknesses: Campy have designed a good concept here with the MK2 system, but theres no 18 cog available in Chorus or Record all steel. If you want one, Veloce is the next option for an 18 in steel, the Veloce cassette however is different as it does not use the paired cogs design, why do Campy use two different 10 speed cassette designs??the cost of manufacture has to increase by doing this which makes the final cost to us the consumer higher.
