at Ebay Favorite Ride: Any Bike Setup: Curtlo w/ 9spd Ultegra. Summary: I have used this crank for over 2 years and have over 10k on it with no problems. The FSA Mega Exo BB is crap, squeaked after 2k, I greased the bearings and then it was fine. Replaced w/ a Dura Ace 7800 BB, 7k later no problems Strengths: Works fine. Weaknesses: Stock BB is crap. Buy a Shimano BB and be happy. Gave it a 3 Overall because of the BB. Similar Products Used: Shimano 6500 double(Octalink)& FSA Gossamer(ISIS). Like this the best.

at Came with bike Favorite Ride: Coastal rides Summary: I have put 400 miles on this crank and have not had a issue. Sounds like allot of the problems on this forum are installation and maintenance issues. My friend has a 105 crank and has 200mi and it creeks always. If you don't take care of your bike it will not perform well. I can shift under load and have no issues. Strengths: Stiff Weaknesses: Weight Similar Products Used: 105 crank

at Performance Bike Favorite Ride: Denver Foothills Bike Setup: Fuji Team Carbon with Cane Creek wheels, Vredestein tires, 105 FD and STI, Ultegra crank and RD. Summary: Add me to those who dislike this carnkset. It came with my Fuji Team. Despite 3 trips to the service department it would often drop the chain when shifting to the big ring when in the 14 or 15 cog. The black paint was scrapped off from so many drops and I couldn't shift confidently while standing or pedaling hard.
Performance took great care of me and let me upgrade to an Ultegra crankset for a reasonable price. Now I love the bike and the shifting is flawless. Strengths: Compact gearing is about it. Weaknesses: Poor shifting, paint is easily scraped off when it drops chain. Similar Products Used: Ultegra 9 and 10 speed drivetrains.

Summary: overall this has been a weak and dissatisfying introduction to roadbike cranksets, but I partly knew that prior to purchasing the bike this came on. With 3 and a half months on the trainer, and two months on the road, this crankset is roughed up, loud, gritty, and has had the outer chainring replaced due to drastic tooth wear and tooth bending. No surprise based on other reviews, but this component, and ones like it, make a strong case for buying a frame and building a bike around it, maybe even if its your first real roadbike. You save some by buying a complete bike, but if you ride it hard, you burn through the cheap stock parts like this one, and grow to appreciate the good stock parts that don't break up in the first year. Then you spend to replace the bad parts anyway. Strengths: stiff enough for someone new to road riding, maybe for someone more experienced.
came on the bike I bought
no disappointment, as I knew this was likely to be a temporary part
could be OK for casual, light riding Weaknesses: chainring durability
overall integrity (needed to be Loctite-ed up and down)

at Bike Aithourity Favorite Ride: Little Mountain Bike Setup: Aluminum frame by Trek, 105 shifters, Ultegra derailleurs, fizik arione saddle, neuvation wheels, michelin krylions tires, ultegra 6650 crank Summary: BB was shot in just over 3000 miles. Good stiffness (not great). Pretty much creaked from day 1, no amount of adjusting fixed it. Upgrading to an Ultegra 6650-G with a 105 BB. Strengths: Reasonable price allowed me to see if a compact was for me. Pretty. Weaknesses: Bottom Bracket. Noisy.
