Price Paid:  $99.00 at All-American Bikes,

Favorite Ride:
Anything with long, steady climbs

Bike Setup:
Cervelo R3, Campy Record, Zipp CSC wheels, FSA bars and stem.

Summary:
This is simple: stay away from this front derailleur! Used it for only 6 months (less than 3000 miles) because it failed right through the carbon fiber cage on a ride. I've used Campy almost exclusively for 20 years and I've never had any component fail.....until this one. I switched to the Chorus version and am convinced that it is a much better choice than going back to the Record version.

Strengths:
Light, good looking, and works fine (before failing completely).

Weaknesses:
Bad design using carbon fiber for cage. Very little weight advantage over aluminum Chorus version.

Similar Products Used:
Campy Chorus 10-speed compact front derailleur. (Non-Carbon) Campy Record 9-speed front derailleurs.

Favorite Ride:
river dr

Bike Setup:
litespeed tuscany, fsa compact crank, velomax wheels easton ec70 bar and seat post

Summary:
This derailer is great. I have fsa compact crank and the regular ultegra always lost the chain. Now I canshift down even going up hill. It works great with the Ultegra shifters.

Strengths:
light and looks kool

Weaknesses:
none

Price Paid:  $100.00 at Competitive Cyclist

Favorite Ride:
Windward Oahu

Bike Setup:
Pinarello Paris SL, full Campy Record, Eurus wheels, Easton bars and stem.

Summary:
Front derailleurs have a pretty simple job - push the chain on and off chainrings. The devil is in the details, especially for compact cranksets where the tooth spacing somewhat large like my 50-34.

Frankly, I find the details poorly executed here. My Pinarello requires a clamp-on front derailleur and the hinge on this one cuts into the seat tube, I've had to pad it to avoid more damage to paint and metal.

Shifting quality is not so great. It could be the Ergopower lever, but even after precisely positioning the derailleur according to the manual, it still occasionally won't go from large ring to small under moderate load, and going from small to large will sometimes lead to "freewheeling" for a couple of pedal revs as the chain is between rings. Not at all what I expect from Campy Record.

Strengths:
Looks nice, lightweight

Weaknesses:
Clamp cuts into seat tube. Shift quality not perfect: can refuse to drop onto small ring under load and can take several revolutions to get onto large ring.

Similar Products Used:
Low and mid-level Shimano and Suntour
