The Mavic road front derailleur has remained essentially unchanged for the past 8 years. It's a solid, no-nonsense, no gimmicks front derailleur. The original Mavic crankset it was designed for did not use ramped chain rings. As a result, shifting will be smoother with a non-ramped chainring setup than a ramped one. My personal setup is with a Croce d'une (spelling?) crankset and non-ramped rings. It works fine. Compatability with STI or Ergo shifters is also questionable. Strengths:
It's not Shimano! All allen-head adjustment bolts. You can completely disassemble and assemble it yourself due to the use of C-clips on the pivot points. Light weight. Weaknesses:
