Strengths:    Excellent shifting, no rubbing

Weaknesses:    None yet.

Bottom Line:
I was never pleased with my 7800 FD, which had mediocre performance and flaking nickle plating. Having heard good things about the new 7900, I took a chance. Finally, Shimano got it right! No more chain rub in the big-big or small-small combinations, and it shifts flawlessly. The small-to-big shifts are vastly better. (What took so long to get this right?) The 7900 is supposed to be used with 7900 shifters, but I am having no problems with my 7800 shifters. Of course I don't need to use the microshift feature, which was never was a good solution to the rubbing problem with the 7800. Time will tell if the plating is better on the 7900. The looks are definitely better.
