Campagnolo Record 9 speed Groupos

DESCRIPTION

The most technological groupset for racing bicycles. The Campagnolo Record groupset is incomparable and a glance will tell you why. But the Campagnolo Record groupset does not just have outstanding esthetic appeal. It contains an unprecedented concentration of technology. The use of the technology of composite materials enables components with reduced weight and greater mechanical resistance to be obtained.
Not to mention the flexible design and solutions reached that would be impossible with aluminum. The materials have been chosen and specially made for each single component.

Smooth shifting. Great look.

Weakness:

A little spendy, but if it fits your budget why not?

Purchased the CT version from Jay at Hollywood Cycles in MN. Great shop. Put on Merlin Cyrene frame with Eurus wheels.

I mainly ride for conditioning, with some road races and tris thrown in for fun.

Switched from a Chorus triple. Hills are no problem. Sweet and smooth as far a shifting goes.

They shift quickly, lightly and intuitively. Anyone who has problems with Campy shifting needs a better mechanic. I just slapped my components on the frame, set the limits, tightened the cables and went for a ride. I stopped twice to adjust the shifting and haven't touched them in 8 months and 2600KM's. The brakes are the easiest things to install and adjust ever. The feel is very precise and luxurious. I still have Ultegra 9 which I liked, and worked well for me, but I rode my old bike last week for the first time since last year and couldn't get over how primitive it felt. Now with DA 10 price isn't an issue.

Weakness:

Harder to find, as Ferrari's are harder to find than cavaliers.

Great shifting, braking, ergonomics, and funtionality. Simply the best, if you can afford it you won't regret it.

shifters can be re-build, quality & looks.Ergo brain is a cool computer to go with REcord

Weakness:

Expensive but it's worth it.Ergo brain computer is made by Cateye.

After two years with Shimano I decided to switch to Campy for a try.Love the 50/40/30 set up with 13/29 which makes it easy to climb any hills.Upgrade the brake pads to Kool stop and they work great. No more wires coming out from shifters.

Precise action. Robust. Black--you know what they say, once you go black....

Weakness:

Campy not part of my grad school benefit package.

Frank Lloyd Wright would love these: their form definitely follows their function. Shifting is low effort, whether shifting on the big ones or the gears in back. Shifting is muy precise. Construction seems very robust. Hoods fit me hands just about perfectly, and I really dig the lever on the inside of the hoods. Brake release is an exercise in simplicity and function. I prefer this grouppo over the Dura Ace STI, Ultegra STi that I've tried, but that which engorges the spongy tissue is a highly personal thing. Even if I never have to repair them, it's nice knowing that they were built so that they can be repaired by Joe Home Mechanic. I'm not a big fan of throw-away parts. As for the CF bits, well, I could take 'em or leave 'em. They do look nice.

- Absolute precision - Awesome Look

Weakness:

- None mechanical - Price, but who cares, it makes you ride more and this is our hobby.

After riding a crappy Shimano 105 groupo for 2 years I finally bit the bullet and got a C40 with full record. What a difference! This groupo is absolutely a dream, precise shifting and braking. Worth every penny.

Smooth, clean, fast, durable and good looking.....what else do you want??

Weakness:

Cost.....who ever replaces a Record cassette???

I had Dura-Ace 9 speed for 60,000 km and it was great but a bit fragile after the first 6 months. Had Record 04 10 speed now for 9,000 km and after taking a few weeks to get used to it I must admit that it is absolutely wonderful. I'm sure Dura-Ace 10 speed is great too but I can't imagine it's better than Record. My shifts first time every time with precision and has not needed an ounce of adjustment. I have grown to love the ability to change multiple gears at once. Banging down that button in a sprint is very hypnotic. Purchase price is Aussie dollar.....very expensive out here for Campag.....

Looks, carbon levers feel good in your hand, rebuildable, high coolness factor - you get lots of nods and smiles from other campy record owners - if that's important to you. More aero than shimano, and cleaner - cables get routed out of the way. Must have it if you own an italian bike. Paddle shifters.

Weakness:

Finicky, mechanical feel, $600 for carbon cranks - come on!, plastic der cog starting to fray. Expensive. Parts are even more expensive. Shifters don't give you as much grab area as Shimano and the brake shifters feel flimsy.

I agree that 04 record is the best looking and coolest group - but I have to say I prefer dura ace action better on the shift. I like the campy paddle shifters but the brake shifters don't feel as solid as D/A. Yes you can rebuild the shifters - but keep in mind it will cost almost the same as buying new ones - as I found out after a nasty crash. I think the D/A front Der shifts much nicer than the campy - there's a clunky mechanical feel to the campy - not bad, just different. However, nice to be able to shift multiple cogs, unlike shimano. And there is that psyche advantage of jamming down the thumb shift on the paddle before going into a sprint.
