Price Paid:  $1800.00 at Performance

Favorite Ride:
South Mountain, Phoenix

Bike Setup:
Full Ultegra

Summary:
I have been riding my Scattante CFR for 8 months, and from the beginning it had a problem with high-speed shimmy on descents. After a particularly violent incident several weeks ago, I took the bike back to performance. Since then, I have been going " round and round" with the store, which claims its mechanics can find no problem, despite the fact that they have not tested it on downhill rides. The store's mechanics claim to be experts, but when you question them, it becomes obvious that they do not understand the problem. This bike is too dangerous to ride.
Despite Performance's advert ised "Satisfaction Guaranteed" policy, I have been unable to get the shop to admit tht the bike has a problem.

Strengths:
Full Ultregra with carbon frame and fork at a reasonable price.

Weaknesses:
Bad high-speed wobble (in my case) and refusal (so far) of the store to accept responsibility for selling a defective product.

Price Paid:  $1350.00 at Supergo.com

Favorite Ride:
60 hilly miles

Bike Setup:
Sent it back.

Summary:
In August 2004, I ordered my Scattante CFR '04 from Supergo.com and paid $1350 (10% off the $1,500 price). After some customer servise problems the bike finally came. Huge disappointment. The bike was so poorly packaged inside that the bike that it had all kinds of scrapes and defects. The brake lever had rubbed against a spoke and resulted in a huge scratch, one of the cables was crushed and there were other miscellaneous scrapes on the bike. I was extremely surprised at how little protective packaging there was on the bike. There were many instances of bike parts rubbing against each other. Also, although the bike is advertised to have Ultegra components, the front and rear hubs are not Ultegra. Thke bike had a very cheap feel to it so I just sent it back. Fortunately, customer service didn't give me any proclems in the return process. For a bike that regularly sells for $1,500, I expected a lot more. I am now looking at the Litespeed Firenza which retails for $2,095. Now, Bikesmart.com has them on sale for $1,795.

Strengths:
Inexpensive for a carbon bike with partial Ultegra components.

Weaknesses:
Cheap feel to it. Hubs are not Ultegra. Based on other reviews, you will have to spend money to replace the seat post and saddle. Based on the condition of the box and some of the labeling, I got the impression that Supergo imports these bikes from Tiawan and justs sends them along to its customers. That is a long way to travel and not have the bike properly packaged.

Price Paid:  $400.00 at Ebay

Favorite Ride:
Rainbow Bike Tuesday Night Group

Bike Setup:
Full Campy Record, FSA carbon crankset, Spinergy Rev-X carbon fiber wheels (tubular), Corima carbon seatpost, Look carbon stem, Easton EC-90 carbon bars.

Summary:
I bought this frameset used on ebay. The original owner didn't like the ultra-quick steering and went for a more traditional frame geometry. I've ridden this for about 300 miles in 2 weeks, and find it more comfortable than a Trek 5200. It's not as stiff as the Trek, but it's stiff enough in sprints and climbs. The steering is more nervous than the Trek, but I don't mind that. I love the color and finish. Very high quality.

Strengths:
Light weight, smooth ride, beautiful finish.

Weaknesses:
Not a well-known name in the group ride, but if you don't care about that, it's an unbelievable bargain.
