at LBS Favorite Ride: PLRA Bike Setup: Stock. Nokian studded tires for winter commuting. Summary: I own the 2008 Globe City 7, purchased for commuting 24 mile round trip to work using concrete sidewalks/paved trail and replacing an old Trek Mountain Bike I had been using.
I like the bike, in general. I have had no major mechanical issues with it. Tires are great. The bike was a good value when considering the features.
I am 6'4" and weigh about 220-260 (depending on the season/year, etc...). My size really puts this bike to the test, however; with the brakes wearing out quickly and the wheels going out of true through normal (commuter) use, including taking the bike up onto and off of curbs.
Would like to have had disc brakes, both for wear reasons and for wet weather stopping ability.
Will be upgrading the wheels soon as I will have worn the originals out. Strengths: Integrated lights, racks, fenders. Offer large frame size. Good tires. Weaknesses: Rear derailleur, Shimano Acera RD-M340 could definitely use an upgrade. Would have liked disc brakes, have had to replace pads on v-brakes in short amount of time. Wheels are not strong enough for me.
Lights are good enough to "be seen", though not to see. When riding in areas that have no street lights, I am forced to slow down, or ride "blind".
Similar Products Used: No other commuter bikes, just have a StumpJumper HT.
