Strengths:    Looks, functionality

Weaknesses:    Weight

Bottom Line:
I was looking to integrate riding into my daily activities, so went into a LBS looking for a hybrid or MTB that I could commute on. I ended up purchasing the Allant that day and for the past month have been commuting on it ~3 days a week.

Good points:
1) I like the way that the bike looks. With the fenders, bell, leather seat - it reminds me of a cruiser.
2) Upright riding style & straight handlebars make riding comfortable & very controlled.
3) All 21 gears are needed on the hills I commute over.
4) Big tires add confidence when riding through glass/debris that always seems to be present in urban bike lanes/sholders.
5) I've had no trouble overloading the rack, but admit that I haven't tested its limits yet.
6) All of the above has changed me as a rider - before I wanted to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. I feel more like a kid on this bike - much more apt to go exploring.

Bad points:
1) This bike is heavy, especially with full pannier bags. The weight took some getting used to, but has made me a stronger rider on my road bike.
2) Kick stand is a little weak. I could see it failing if the back rack was loaded with groceries.
3) Given the weight of the bike, I wish it had a full chainguard, versus the limited one that comes standard with the bike. I do have to admit, though, the one on the bike seems effective as long as your pant leg is tucked in or rubber banded.

Cliff Notes:
If you want a comfortable bike for commuting/family rides/limited grocery getting, this is a good one.
