Description I purchased the Electra Amsterdam a week ago, and just love it. It's like a lazyboy on wheels. Shifts are very crisp, and stops with plenty of meaning. The paint job is perfect and the handlebars and ...

Summary: great bike, haven't had any major problems with it yet. it's a really comfortable ride. the skirt guards can pop off easily for maintenance, but as far as riding it's only come off once after a large bump and it isn't a big deal, a small piece of tape can fix that. shifting is smooth, the guards and fenders are great and keep you clean while riding. steel frame feels solid.
it is a little pricey, but overall i feel it's worth what you get and i recommend it.
Strengths: looks great
shifts fine, the three gears are plenty as long as you aren't riding up any hills that are too steep
very, very comfortable
Weaknesses: fenders don't feel as sturdy as they should

Summary: I'm a sucker for Dutch bike design and had hoped to buy an Azor Oma from the Dutch Bicycle Co. in Seattle. It retails just under $1600. Living in Utah, I'd have to buy without a test ride and ship for around $350. Adding a basket and lock, put me well above the $2K mark. I believe it is totally worth the price if one can afford it. It's one of those quality legacy pieces like a Herman Miller lounge chair that you pass on when you kick the bucket. However, I'm a 40 year old female who hasn't been on a bike in 20 years. Bike commuting isn't really an option where I live, so its function would be pureley recreational; getting out and enjoying an occasional ride in my town to the post office, video store, and get a little exercise. Without knowing how often I would actually ride and with the poor economy, I reluctantly elected to find a "cheaper" alternative. Hence, I bought the ladies Electra Amsterdam Classic. It's a cute bike, but definitely not in the same class as a real Dutch bike. The quality just isn't there and I think it is overpriced by about double. I'm going to ride keep it for a year or so and see just how much I actually ride, or if it's another romantic notion that never really materializes. If I do ride considerably, I will consider trading up for the "real thing".
Strengths: Aesthetically, it's a great looking bicycle. It's very fun to ride for a novice. (The bike is not speedy. If this is a concern or you have anthing more than a slight hill to ride, get the 8-speed). The riding position and seat are very comfortable. It's definitely easier to purchase this bike since so many shops are now carrying the Electra line.
Weaknesses: Again, it's overpriced for the quality. It feels a little "loose" when riding. My biggest complaints are: 1- There is no basket for this bike. What "Dutch" bike doesn't have a basket? The headlight is positioned where the basket goes, so you'll have to retro fit a lift-off basket to make it work. There is not enough wiring to relocate the lamp to the front fork. 2- the fenders aren't centered over the tires and are a little flimsy. 3- the skirt/coat guards continuously pop off and rub against the tire. In fact, it did it the first 30-seconds I rode. I frequently have to stop and fix it. It generally occurs when the guard or fender is bumped or if I'm attaching something to the rear rack. 4- the owner's manual is not specific to the bike, just generic riding safety information. You're going to have to call a shop for more details.
Similar Products Used: Nothing similar. My last bike was a Schwinn KOM S9 mountain bike purchased in 1990.

Summary: Electra’s attention to detail is great regarding… quality of materials (light aluminum fame- real leather on the seat and handle bar grips), extremely comfortable contoured seat, superior fit and finish workmanship. This bike rides so very SMOOTH and is light, yet is so very rugged. This is a Great general purpose bike.

Weaknesses: Bike design weaknesses: NONE, rock solid bike.
That said, Electra is one on the leading manufacturer of COOL cruiser style bikes. Electra offers Bright colors, well thought and far-out bike graphics, even attention to custom graphics manufactured into the bike tire treads that complement the theme of the bike on their other line of bikes. Why offer this line of bikes in boring dark colors… black, midnight green, dark red?

Summary: I am 66 years old and have been looking for a way to exercise. I was refered to the Electra web site by my son-in-law and was taken by the Electra Amsterdam. It is a bit heavy but on level ground goes along nicely. This s not the bike for boy racers or hills but a bike one really can enjoy a ride on. Highly recommended and a real looker that is well constructed.
Strengths: Great Looks
Well made
Enjoyable ride on fairly level ground
Weaknesses: Heavy not a hill climber
