Strengths: The carbon forks and carbon seatpost make the ride very comfortable. Bicycle is very good for climbing.
Weaknesses: on a fast downhill there is some vibration in the handle bars
Bottom Line:
Tricross comp is an excellent all around bicycle. I have used this extensively climbing hills and on the open road. The wide forks allow for a wide range and type of tire. I have used only 25cc tires but could go down to 23 or up to 28. Bicycle is very forgiving and a comfortable ride.
Strengths: - lightweight
- good componentry
- eyelets for rack and fenders
- clearance for wide tires
- canti brakes (me like)
- sissy brake levers
- eye candy
Weaknesses: - Geometry slightly too upright, top tube is too short. I'm only 5'6", but I went with the Large (56 cm) frame instead of Medium because I felt cramped on the Medium.
Bottom Line:
A pretty sweet bike for all-around use. I use this bike for my longer commutes and recreational riding, and it's been holding up very well so far. The bike is very light, responsive, and yet at the same time stable due to longer wheelbase, relaxed geometry and wide-ish (44 cm) handlebars. It soaks up the road buzz pretty well. Can acommodate rack and fenders and wide tires.
However, I was told by a bike shop that Specialized forgot to send some BB washers with their Tricrosses. The shop installed the missing washer during the first tune-up. Just something to be aware of - who knows how many stores got bikes with missing washers...
The position on this bike is probably slightly too upright for me: in fact, the way the stem is originally is just ridiculous (just take a look at the picture!). But it has four positions to choose from, so I found the geometry more acceptable after flipping it.
I've have a road and mountain bikes, now looking to get something in the middle. I've been looking at the Specialized Tricross Comp Triple. Anyone have any experience, opinion, alt Read More »
