Date Reviewed: August 15, 2009

Strengths:    It's fast, light for this type of bike, and has secure road performance.

Weaknesses:    shifting requires frequent initial adjustments, which is probably endemic to the 105 performance group. Front derailleur also has a half way adjustment that takes some getting use to.

Bottom Line:
I wanted a bike that I could commute with. So I went with a flat bar road bike and I think this is among the best of it's type. The componants are all of the medium grade shimano 105 road set. The weight is a reasonably light 20.8 pounds, I added shimano double sided clipless pedals, continental touring plus tires, and a topeak bike rack. With the more durable continentals, I feel more confident I can make my commutes without flats. After work, I like to go out for about a daily 22 mile bike homes, instead of my usual 8.5 mile trip. I take it on a fairly hill but not mountainous route. The gear range is adequate and does not require me to use more than 5-6 gears of the rear deraileur's range. It's not as fast as my bianchi road bike but is not as prone to flats and has a more comfortable riding position for me. It is stable and not prone to any shimming at 35+ mph. It rides on packed gravel and I use it for road trips of 60+ miles.

Is Sram red 22 compatible with old 9/10 speed mavic wheels?

Hi all, I'm building up a new frame w/ sram red 22 speed components and I was wondering if the mavic kyserium elite sl wheels free hub body is compatible or should I go ahead and order some new wheels ASAP. I tried doing a little research online but compatibility was mostly talking about shimano/sra ... Read More »

How much more would you pay for SRAM Red 22 over 22 speed Ulterga?

I can get a great deal on a bike with full 2014 Ultegra 22 speed (NON Di2) or the identical bike with SRAM Red 22 for $500. I like shifting with Shimano and I had a bike with 2013 SRAM Force for a while and didn't ride it enough to know if I like double tap better than Shimano so that won't be a dec ... Read More »

SRAM 22 cranksets on a 10-speed setup?

Been wanting to upgrade the Rival crankset that came on my bike with a lighter SRAM Red crank, probably an Exogram version. Is there any reason a Red 22 would not work? The Red Exogram 10-speed and the Red 22 weigh the same, but I was thinking about compatibility with a future upgrade to the 1 ... Read More »
