Strengths: Supple ride
Geometry suits me and older guys who lack flexibility in the neck.
Big clearances.
Great component spec, no throwaways but the brakes.
Have to come back to the ride - very compliant, tracks like a locomotive ie not nervous, better than many time trial bikes on aerobars.
If you are looking for a high end flatbar bike, this has to be at or near the top of your list. Frame is far better than any Trek, Specialized Sirrus, etc and geometry is way better than Orbea Diem.Weaknesses: I have packed and shipped it a few times and have some scratches on the frame. To be expected I suppose.Bottom Line: I had an accident in 2004 in which I broke both wrists and am unable to put any weight on the bar. So, the Guru Titanium bike (Campy Record) went and I began working with Pecco's to put together a workable bike. I needed a flatbar, Ergon grips, and as supple a front end as possible. I use Profile ironma carbon aerobars (reversed R to L) most of the time.
This bike fit the bill perfectly. Tall head tube, very supple fork, very supple frame, came with excellent Fizik saddle and Crank pedals, great value as there was little else to buy.
I commute 29 k each way 3 times weekly, mostly path, 3 km dirt railtrail. I have put about 4500 km on the bike commuting (has clearance for fenders and 700-28 tires) and about 3000 doing club rides, Gatineau park and 2 tours, LAGBRAU and BTC.
I am completely delighted with it. It sails over rough stuff far better than my previous titanium bike and at the end of the day you don't have sore hands, feet, neck etc.
The huge clearances are convenient in that it can be a true 4 season bike. The Giant carbon seatpost, the Fizik seat etc are all keepers. The only throwaway component are the crap shimano cantilever brakes. Get V Brakes, you'll actually stop.
Favorite Ride: LAGBRAU
Price Paid:
$1699.00
Purchased At: Cyclosportif GM Bert
Similar Products Used: About 30 bikes since 1966. Rides most like an Exxon Graftek I had, but has way better stiffness and stability.
Bike Setup: Stock frame, wheels, saddle, drivetrain, have used 3 clusters and chains, 1 set of chainrings.
Swapped stem for an Easton 70, EC 90 bar. profile ironman carbon aerobars to use with my heavy plastic forearm supports which I must wear.
Added fenders, new Crank 2ti Eggbeaters.
Still weighs 19 lbs without fenders.
