Strengths: Frame is excellent, campagnolo veloce gives you a lot for the money, comfortable, great positionWeaknesses: Wheels and CranksetBottom Line: I love this bike- its got faults which I'll come to but it looks and feels like a machine worthy of its illustrious heritage.
Sempre sits in the middle- its not the greatest sportive bike as the ride is firm and after 6 or 7 hours in the saddle you could notice it! The general racing position also doesn't help this.
Its also not a thoroughbred racer. Campagnolo Veloce is probably not good enough for a good hard road race but it's perfect for sportives.
What it is, and what it does, is get you in one bike to a place where you can do both sportives and races to a good standard- its an allrounder.
Bad points and there are some;
1. Campy/ Campag/ Campagnolo Veloce is a good but not brilliant groupset. Why then has Bianchi not used the Crankset and instead opted for the compact FSA gossamer which is appalling- it creaks massively, needs constant adjustment, is cheap, and doesn't deliver the power well. Immediately invest the money and upgrade the crankset to the Campy Veloce 39/53 or equivalent
2. Wheels- again the Reparto Corse wheels that come with the bike. I had knackered the rims after only 1000 miles and I mean by that pulling the spokes through the rim- the Reparto hub's are not very good either and suck in dirt and water. I'd again spend a few quid and get some Fulcrum or Mavic wheels
Not much of the original bike left I hear you say. You could be right except for one thing- £400 of upgrades doesn't remove the essence of the bike and the brand. It feels exotic, it has character, it looks great. Treat it right and it will give an incredible and rewarding riding experience for the money it costs.
I've put 10,000 miles on this in a year and the frame is as tight as it was when I bought it- I'm really looking forward to the next 10,000.
