Strengths:    Strong frame! Was hit by a car goin 30mph and no problems on the bike except the derailures were trashed. Fast as all Hell!!! I could do 70 miles on this bike easy when in shape. Its real comfortable once you loose the seat and buy a differant one.

Weaknesses:    A little bit heavy for a racing bike but not too heavy considering the strength of frame.

Bottom Line:
I saw the lemon Yellow and I was immidiatly in LOVE. This bike just screams fast and tough. Not to mention Yellow is the most highly visable color on the spectrum from a distance. Sorry Fire truck red. Bout 6mnths after purchase I bought a Polar spedometer/HR moniter. I was riding down a very long hill in the outskirts of Tokyo Mountain range.Had it in the highest gear possible and was crankin so fast I had no more speed or pedal resistance left. I came to a long slow stop and my rims just shuddered and I could smell them burning as they were heating up. When I got off my bike checked the top speed on the POLAR Guess what it said? 136KPH thats 84MPH!! I dont know if the speedomiter was lying but I can tell you Id never do it again. It was so fast I woulda died if I lost control :D I will take off the road wheels sometimes and put on a beefy Alex rim with a mountain bike hub. The frame accepts larger diamiter tires and will take it off road from time to time into trails and grass . Its a Dam Trooper I tell yah!!!

Strengths:    The bike is very fast. Smooth shifting. Very comfortable with new seat.

Weaknesses:    The yellow color will take a little getting used to.

Bottom Line:
The bike performs very well. It is light
and shifts great. Shimano 105 gears.
The seat post was replaced as well as the seat. I also changed out the handlebar stem and the tires. The original seat was not comfortable.

Strengths:    Shifts and rides very smooth. Absolutely attacks hills!

Weaknesses:    Upgraded the seat. Sometimes, I seem to get caught in-between the front gears on hills. Maybe just have to get used to it or get in better shape.

Bottom Line:
This is my first road bike and I could not find much on this bike a month ago. So, this is to help others with some feedback after 80 miles or so.

I was looking for a versatile bike so I could continue riding the rails-to-trails and do a little more road biking. I have time to do 20-25 mile rides a couple days a week and felt the trails were going to confine me sooner or later.

I almost bought the Specialized Sequoia, which I felt was a little more comfortable and is a super bike. But, I chose the SR500 for the upgraded componentry including an adjustable stem and 105 in the rear. My LBS told me that the Tiagra rear derailer does just fine, but when I test-road the Sequoia, it did not shift nearly as smooth as the SR500. The SR500 has Tiagra shifters which are better to maneuver than the Shimano Dora? on the Specialized. Anybody on the fence between a flat-bar and curly bars, please go with curly bars. I have been soooo impressed with how many different positions I can have with a curly bar. I will never go back to a flat-bar! I am 6'1" and got caught between a L and XL frame and went with the XL....seems to allow me to keep my back straighter and more comfortable.....seems fine. I would recommend a getting a cadence meter of some kind. I am surprised how little I use the secondary brakes on the bar....may not have needed them. I believe the adjustable stem is going to be the way to go and allows more flexibility. I am still deciding on the suspension in the seat post, but I don't have much to compare it to at this time.

Overall, I felt the Cannondale SR500 was a fine choice and great value for my first road bike. It is all I will need for a long while and was better on componentry than others I saw in the same price range. I am amazed at how I crave the hills. I simply powered through them on my mountain bike, where as I blast through them on this bike. Adds a very good and different dimension that I did not expect.

Strengths:    For me the upright position is a strength, but thats why I bought the bike.

Weaknesses:    Seat, pedals. Both need to be upgraded.

Bottom Line:
Purchased this on a year end clearance.
Great bike for the money. Fairly light allows for an upright riding position and looks good.
To steal a line from another poster somewhere on this site--the seat is like a medieval torture device. Its gotta go. But if thats my worst complaint.
Other than that, it does everything I expect of it. Rides and shifts smoothly and goes fast.
I'm also ready to try clipless pedals. Being a casual rider I've suffered with the toe clips, but I can never seem to get my foot out of 'em.
