Summary:
NOTE: the price I quoted on the APEX 2005 review was in Canadian dollars.

For 2006 the Devinci Apex has been spec'd with Bontrager, and the Shimano aero wheelset is gone, making it very similar to the TREK 1200. I did notice that the Trek had lower spec crankarms. These two bikes are at the same price point (in Canada at least) but the Devinci frame is made in "French" Canada, not China/Taiwan. But don't jump on me for that comment, exellent products can and do come out of Asia.

The Carbon fork (aluminium steerer) is a further refinement of their design. The ride feels light and quick (for this price point) and the new red and white paint gives it a race-ready look.

Best value/performance (in Canada) especially when on sale at $1050CDN - Regularly $1299CDN

Strengths:

- SPD style pedals (most shops will upgrade for a little extra)

Summary:
When I decided to get out of the dirt and back onto the road, I looked for an entry-level bike that was relatively inexpensive (as road bikes go), but that had enough quality to perform. After lots of research on the internet, and going to a bunch of bike shops, the Devinci Apex was a standout. The closest competition at this price point either had lesser components or had ugly paint schemes.

THE GOOD:
The Devinci frame is made in Canada, not overseas, so I can support my community/country. The carbon fork really helps to smooth out the road. And the Shimano wheelset is great! The 20 spoke front and 24 rear (with aero rims) are holding up well to my 185 pound weight. The 105 rear derailleur is a nice touch at this price point. Other components include brands like TruVativ, Full Speed Ahead, and Shimano's Tiagra. These parts have a nice finish and don't look or feel cheap.

THE BAD:
There really aren't any. Unless you want a lighter paint scheme. Black is everywhere, but the electric blue and arctic white striping bring the bike alive. For 2006 the black has been replaced with white and makes the bike look more expensive.

I haven't had any problems so far. The only changes I've made are to larger platform "road" pedals, and upgraded brake pads with adjustable toe-in.

If you're looking for a road bike in this price range, I highly recommend the Apex, and I am impressed by the Devinci brand. Take a look.

Summary:
Although this is an entry-level bike it's still big bang for the bucks, Tiagra + 105 works smooth. Other components are also very solid. After 1000+ kms with bumpy abuse it still go strong without a tune, all it need is few drops of lub. Low profile (minimal graphic on frame) is exactly what I like. Recreationists and beginners will have joy on this bike.
