Strengths:    Ride quality, aggressive stance, stiffness on sprints and attacks. High bling factor even at entry level. Mine is in all black and attracts much attention. Very intimidating.

Weaknesses:    The TCR literally had no weaknesses what so ever.

Bottom Line:
Was looking for a 2500 dollar bike and the extreme geometry caught my eye on the brand new 2009 TCR Advanced. 2009 was the first year that this radical new design was available. I tried the Specialized Roubaix which proved very disconnected from the road for my taste. I had ridden Cannondale aluminum all of my riding career. The TCR was very stiff and responsive on my test ride. Corners like it's on rails and is extremely steady at all times. The geometry of the frame is comfortable, yet very aggressive and leaves you in a great position for attacks on the fly. This bike has proven extremely comfortable on the roughest chip seal road in my area, yet it's impossible to get any type of frame flex from the ultra stiff bottom bracket and chainstays.

Bike Setup:   105 setup is impeccable and durable, well worth the price. The Mavic CXP wheelset is durable and good looking. The fiziik Arione is a comfortable saddle that is good enough to race on.

Looking at a few of 2011 bikes: 2011 Z5, Giant TCR Advanced 2 and Giant Defy Advanced 3. I'm waiting for the LBS to get the Z5. That bike is in the lead because of price and it has the UHC carbon frame and full Shimano 105 for 2011 (MSRP $2K). Dealer has the new 2011 TCR Advanced 2 in and that al ... Read More »

Trek 1.5 2009 vs giant tcr advanced 3 vs kuota k factor vs Fuji roubaix 2009

I know this is a strange group of bikes to compare but I am curious whether you all think it is worth to purchase the giant or kuota (higher price) and keep the bike long as possible and just build on them or purchase the trek vs fuji. I am a weekend to 3x a week rider averaging 30-5 miles per ride ... Read More »
