This bike is awesome. It floats up climbs, decends on a rail, and cuts through the wind.
Custom geometry is included in the price.
I am 200+ lbs and this bike weighs 16 lbs. That just seems ridiculous to me. There is absolutely no bottom bracket flex.
Strengths: Very responsive handling. The bike immediately follows the rider's intent when diving into turns. Custom monocoque carbon. Good ride qualities for a light carbon frame.
Weaknesses: The bike is light and is built to ride fast so you may have some road feel through the front end at high speeds, but this does not detract from the overall ride quality.
Bottom Line:
Lively, responsive carbon road frame. Aerodynamic frame design. Guru offers custom geometry for unique rider sizes. As a tall rider, I needed a custom fit and Guru does custom without additional cost. Very efficient bike and good vertical compliance. There was a noticeable difference in handling from my other bikes on the first couple of rides. The rider's weight is balanced well on the frame and the light front-end provides very responsive and stable turning capabilities.
Weaknesses: May not be as ultimately compliant as some very smooth Italian lugged frames but more comfortable than other aero monocoques or TT bikes.
Bottom Line:
The Maestro is a lightweight, aero, carbon monocoque road bike. It is suitable for recreational rides, road racing, crits and century rides. Riders looking for performance, responsiveness, fun and decent compliance will love it. Also works well for medium/heavier riders (I'm 200 lbs.) and does not wash out like some other light weight carbon frames. Can customize geometry and layup at no added cost. I tested almost every high-end frame out there looking for a significant performance upgrade over my old bike. Although there are many "nice" bikes out there, the Maestro really stood out for performance, build quality and looks. This bike is among the lightest, has a very stiff and efficient bottom bracket and drive train and is rigid overall but with good vertical compliance. My immediate impressions were of great responsiveness and how quickly the bike accelerates and climbs. Secondly, it was very apparent that you can maintain higher speeds, longer and more easily on this bike, probably a result of a great drive train, aero frame and my Zipp wheels. Thirdly, build quality and feel are outstanding and the bike is simply fun and a pleasure to ride. In back to back to back to back testing the Maestro is so clearly superior in every category to that other aero frame that its maker advertises incessantly during the Tour and that a certain infamous Italian was riding until he was thrown off his team.
In summary, I am still amazed by how the Maestro moves out, how improbable catches of a lone rider or group 1/4 mile up the road is simply a matter of deciding to do it, and how enjoyable it is to ride fast.
