Weaknesses: Not laterally stiff enough for big guys with lots of torque.
Bottom Line:
First of all, I think it's important to not only give detail of the bike but the rider. 6', 190lbs with tons of torque. Cracked the BB on my last bike (Fondriest). In my quest to find a bike that could not only feel good but one that would not feel like a noodle and last under my weight and torque. I was told by many a pro shop that the Vortex would fit the bill with it's 6/4 tubing and oversize downtube. The ride is stiff but compliant, meaning it soaks up the high fequency road noise. However, I was somewhat disappointed in the lateral flex. It felt like a noodle to me. The ultimate test is coasting down hill with the hand off the bars. It wigged and wobbled badly. The bike is not for me. However, another guy got on it right after I did and he loved it. He was an inch or so shorter, 50lbs lighter with weenie legs. Conclusion, personal preference is the key. Weight of the rider is also a major factor, if not thee factor. I like a lateral stiff bike with a moderate stiff ride. To each is own. Personally, I love the 2004 Ultimate. With it's larger than life downtube and oversize everything else not to mention the carbon stays makes this the near perfect bike for me. On order.
