Strengths: Beautiful, smooth ride; light (~17 lb complete bike); but also stiff and responsive. Attention to detail on the bike - you should see the welds!Weaknesses: Minor detail missed on custom etching; noise resulting from vibrations of dirt between the seat post and thin titanium tubing; possibly cost.Bottom Line: I bought the Lynskey Custom Level 4 after getting a Serotta fitting to determine why my Litespeed Ultimate was getting uncomfortable on 100+ km rides. I decided on titanium because of my experiences of the excellent ride quality with the Litespeed and after my local bike shop advised me that for my level of riding that there would be little difference between carbon and titanium.
The build process on the Lynskey was excellent. Dave Lynskey personally interviewed me to determine my ride preferences and characteristics and then custom built the bike to these preferences. The paint jobs can also be customized, but I elected for brushed titanium with a customized etching of a boxing Kangaroo (being an Aussie). The etchings were excellent quality, although they missed some fine detail on my name on the top tube. I also ordered the bike with DuraAce, Zipp 303s and wireless PowerTap hub. The prices were very competitive, but unfortunately this person no longer works for Lynskey and componentry and accessories are now priced out at retail.
Ride quality is excellent. The bike is responsive when climbing the local hills and is very comfortable over rough roads and long rides.
The titanium tubing is very thin. I was getting a very annoying noise in the bottom bracket/crank area and could not work out the problem. The mechanics at my local bike shop eventually worked out that grit was getting between the seat post and tube causing loud vibrations. Apparently this is a trait of thin titanium tubing.
While I really enjoy riding my Lynskey, I do question if I needed to go custom (but it does fit like a glove) and know that I could have got a complete build on some excellent carbon bikes for cheaper than I paid for the Lynskey.
